Availability of Vasocon A (Opthalmic)By Gordon from Scotland on February 27, 2006 Category: Vasocon-A (Ophthalmic) Vasocon A is no longer available in the UK or in the US. I have tried a range of other eye drops, but they are ineffective. Can you please advise : 1. where Vasocon A might still be obtained; 2. why Novartis/CIBA Vision are no longer producing these drops; 3. a suitable alternative. Thanks for your help. Gordon |
Vasocon A searchHello, You are not alone in your search for Vasocon A!! My drug store says that there is a Vasocon 1% that is maybe available with a prescription. Walgreen's Drug Store has a reference to Vasocon--- without the A--- but I think that it is not as strong a solution??? My last bottle was "manufactured for CIBA Vision, A Novartis Company, Duluth, GA 30097. " But it seems there are plenty of ways to buy VasoconA on the internet, but I am hoping to find a way to purchase it locally. good luck!! oh those ichy ichy eyes!!! By Kathy from Utah, USA on April 04, 2006 | Reply | ConsumerI, too, have a problem with itchy, dry eyes. I have Sjogrens Syndrome and VasoconA works for me - also gets rid of the puffiness. Why was VasoconA taken off the market or more directly, why is it no longer being manufactured? It helped - especially when the Russian Olive blooms in the spring and the pollen is then around for months on end. Novartis or Eli Lily or whomever made this - please make it again and get it to us!!!! There is nothing to take its place. Thank-you if you do. By Sharon from Caldwell, ID on October 08, 2006 | Reply | I feel your pain (itching?)I too was trying to figure out what happened to Vasocon-A drops as I was unable to find them at any drugstore anymore. I poked around online and saw mentions of it being discontinued, but no reasons as to why. So, I went to the Novartis site and wrote an email via their "Contact Us" page asking if they had been discontinued and if so, why and also if they offered any other comparable OTC allergy eye drops at all. Here's the useless canned reply I got in response: "Thank you for your interest in Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Which says to me in so many words, "Too bad, go pay to see your doctor and pay yet more for some prescription drug: we need more profits and an OTC that actually worked was cutting into our prescription profits." I know for sure that if I do take the time to see my doctor and have to get a prescription eye drop, I'm going to make sure that it's not something that Novartis makes because they've already screwed me once, why should I buy their products anymore? By Callie from Massachusetts on November 27, 2006 | Reply | Vasocon Awritten:3/16/07 I feel for you all I started using Vasocon A when it was still a prescription and have struggled with hay fever since I was in the 3rd grade. I remember starting with a product called Estivin that seemed to work for a long while I have been taking the Vasocon A for about 15 years now and now I am a bit pissed about it not being available because its alternative Naphcon does not work work a darn. This is because of the Naphthazoline and anithistamine (sp) combination contained in the product. But I am sure all you allergy sufferers are already aware of this. Please bookmark this site and get back to your fellow allergy sufferers in need if you should find a comparable product, as will I. written by rtg Pacific Northwest, U.S. By r from U.S. on March 17, 2007 | Reply | Vasacon drops - how to buy them?I am desperate to find the Vasacon drops!! Has anyone found them on the internet. I've tried Naphcon Forte, Naphcon A USELESS !! I've visited at least 15 pharmacies in the last month. As for Novaritis I called them it took 5 numbers and one very anoying press 1 press 2 press 3 to exit merry go round. Finally I got a lady who said yes they have been discontinued it was a "buisiness decision" and the was NOTHING to replace it...great Anyone if they find a stash please email me....Sunnbuzz at hotmaildotcom (written like that to aviod spammers !)
By Sharon from Toronto, Canada on June 12, 2007 | Reply | VASOCON-A ALTERNATIVEI looked up the active ingredients and it seems the only other medication that is the same is ALBALON-A (also discontinued). However, I decided to look into purchasing either one through a Canadian Pharmacy. Vasocon-A is not available but I found one website that has ALBALON-A. If you look up both drugs, they have the exact same active ingredients. I hope this helped you all. Lynda By Lynda W from Parrsboro N. S. Canada on April 07, 2008 | Reply | Need relief from juniper pollen...I am suffering, this is high Juniper pollenation season in New Mexico. Vasocon-A was so effective I had stocked up 5 year's worth, and today I ran out. So I went out and wasted $30 on antihistamines that do not work. One pharmacist looked it up on his computer and reported Vasocon had been discontinued for some time. This is extremely irritating, because the American Way is that you can get what you want because some giant corporation can make a buck off of you. But this is more like communist-era poland, where the shelves were full of products nobody wanted. Then I thought I was being delusional, until I found ths page. Just knowing there are others who have uncurable allergies has helped psychologically. As for what to do about the eyes, i do not know. i am pretty sure there is a half-full bottle od vasocon around here somewhere, but I will have to look for it. By Gnarlodious from Santa Fe on February 27, 2009 | Reply | VASOCON A EYE DROPSI have been searching for Vasocon A for over 3 years now and I just wonder if anyone has found out why they've discontinued it!! It is the only eye drops that help me. If anyone finds it, please email me as I'd love to try to get some. I have an old bottle now that I just used and I only have a few drops left. Thanks to any of you if you can help me. Anne By Anne from USA TENNESSEE on August 14, 2009 | Reply | vasocon substituteThe active ingredient in Vasocon (from Web MD) appears to be Antazoline. While I can find no drops using Antazoline in the USA a recent trip to Thailand yielded three different brands all containing this ingredient and there may be more. It's the only medication that works for my itching eyes so I stocked up on 3 kinds all of which provide welcome relief. No idea how you might import some---it is by the way absurdly cheap in Thailand, about $2 for the usual size eyedrop bottle. You might start here: the manufacturer of one of the brands (Opsil-A) is Biolab Medical Co. Ltd in Thailand. Best of luck. By Gene Barone from San Francisco CA on September 07, 2014 | Reply | Vasocon A found!!though Vasocon-a is no longer available, and the version without the "A" is missing an ingredient, I have found a solution!! the predecessor to Vasocon-A in the United States was Albalon-A, it was after 15 years in the US that Vasocon-A maker bought them out. Albalon-A is widely available in Australia!!!! without a prescription!! hope this helps Stephen By stephen stgermain rph from hartford, CT on March 25, 2015 | Reply | Albalon-A and Vasocon-AYes, Albalon-A is available over the counter in Australia and New Zealand, but most pharmacies there will not ship to the United States because the product is no longer approved for usage here. Also, the Albalon-A has a warning that the shelf life is only 4 weeks once you open the bottle. If I remember correctly that is one of the reasons why they discontinued both the Albalon-A and Vasocon-A products here years ago. I also miss them and can't find a product to replace them. Naphacon-A is about as close as I can come, but it doesn't work nearly as well. There used to be posts on this same blogs from people who had purchased these products from overseas and the product wasn't legitimate and did major damage to their eyes. I remember one of the issues was it made their eyes feel like there was sand in them. I really want to order the Albalon-A, but I'm afraid. Once you ruin your eyes, you can't reverse the damage. How did you like them? do they compare to the VasoconA drops?? I am desperate for some good news during this allergy season! Thank you! By Kayla from Columbus, OH on June 16, 2017 | Reply | VASOCON A alternateI have been looking for a replacement for VASOCON A also. Today I had one of those brain 'duh' moments. I compared Vasocon A ingrediens to AFRIN NASAL SPRAY. AFRIN has .05 Oxy hcl. and other which are preservatives, etc. Afrin (or house brands) does not have the "A" Antazoline phosphate (0.5%) which is an Antihistamine. OXY Hcl .05 in Vasocon A is a decongestant and is the same in AFRIN. My thought on this is to disable the AFRIN spray tube and use as eye drops. I would be interested in your opinion.
