A LOCAL DOCTOR HERE GAVE MY FOUR MONTH OLD DAUGHTER THIS MEDICINE FOR HER COLD AND COUGH. I AM JUST WONDERING IS IT SAFE TO GIVE SUCH A STRONG MEDICINE TO A CHILD SO YOUNG? HE GAVE HER A DOSAGE OF 1/2 TEASPOON EVERY 6 HOURS. SHE JUST SEEMED TO BE SO OUT OF IT FOR SO LONG AND IT GOT ME TO WORRYING ABOUT IT. PLEASE RESPOND TO ME ASAP.

THANK YOU
KIM HOLBROOK

This would NOT be OK

As a physician I would STRONGLY recommend not giving this medicine to infants or children. It is a strong narcotic and I don't recommend it for kids due to the risk of side effects (i.e. the way your infant responded to the medicine). The dose also seems quite high for a child this age. It would be prudent to avoid the doctor who gave you this medicine in the future. Just my 2 cents.
