However, it is also one of the most challenging. It is a period filled with tension not only for the expectant mother but for everyone who loves her as well, especially her partner. But no worries, we have a brief guide prepared for you to accompany you in this wonderful journey to motherhood! Ready, Set, Go! Sometimes, it’s all in the power of the mind. You can prepare all your baby’s clothes and a variety of probable names, but if you are not prepared psychologically, it’s just a waste of time. To help you in this, you can discuss parenting styles with your partner. You will also need to talk openly about things like the costs of raising a baby and how it will affect you finances and schedules. Make sure also to have a pre-conception check up. This includes finding a practitioner before you get pregnant. Now, after all that mental hype, let’s go to the tangibles. Remember, a baby can bring in a lot of change in your life. This includes changes in your diet, choice of activities and as a whole, your lifestyle. Here’s a review of some important things to consider, and some do’s and don’ts.
Weight: It’s not good to be underweight, for this may result in a low birth weight baby. However, being overweight is bad as well, for it increases the possibility that your baby having spinal problems. So, find out from your doctor the ideal weight for you. Maintain a healthy diet as advised, and assuredly, you and your baby will be just fine. Nutrition: It’s just not you anymore, there’s also the baby. So, now you have twice as much reason to watch what you eat. What’s nutritious and what’s not is key here. Just remember, you will not only need to eat for your own health, you need to be extra careful to intake the right and adequate nutrients for the sake of your baby. Drugs and Alcohol: Anything foreign that you introduce to your system will inadvertently affect the baby. Always consult with your doctor first before taking any medications. Of course, it goes without saying that alcohol is unhealthy, most especially now that you have a baby growing inside your womb. Exercise: Move! Try a bit of walking or some stretching. However, avoid raising your body temperature over 101 degrees Fahrenheit. A healthy body makes pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery much easier for you and your baby. Smoking & Second-hand Smoke: Smoking increases the likelihood of placental problems, low birth weight, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and so many other complications, so don’t even think about it. Be cautious of second-hand smoke as well! Workplace & Environmental hazards: Avoid environments where you are exposed to X-rays, lead dust, and other chemicals. Keep yourself relaxed, stress-free and happy! |
