Use of citrus jucie, vitamin c

My daughter has ADD and takes Addreall. Most mornings, her breakfast is a glass of orange juice and muli-vitamins. Some times in the winter months ( flu season) she takes extra vitamin C along with her Adderall. Is there a reason why she should not be taking citrus products? she only takes her medication in the morning. should she take no citrus products at all or not together with Adderall? and what are the effects of taking them together?

Love O.J.

I take 40mg of Adderall every morning when I get to work. I am a health nut, mostly crazy about fruits. One thing that is terribly difficult to live without is Orange Juice. I could drink a gallon at a time. I love it. However, even just one glass will alter the affect of my medication for Adult ADHD. I used to stop and pick up a Jamba Juice on my way in to work with a shot of wheat grass---and I cannot do that anymore either. I was taking vitamin C as well--over time I just had to stop taking them and stop drinking orange juice during the weekdays. I don't know if this helped but... I noticed there was no reply and trying to help someone with ADHD or ADD who is on Adderall can be quite frustrating--especially when you don't know first hand how it makes her feel. Anyway, my name is Jamie.

vitamin C decreases adderall absorption

If you check out the fine print on the medicine information sheet, there's a section on drug interactions.  Gastric acidifying agents (for example, ascorbic acid AKA vitamin C) decrease absorption of adderall.  Since orange juice is a significant source of vitamin C, drinking it in the morning will, in theory, decrease effectiveness of adderall.  If your daughter has been taking adderall with orange juice all along, her dose has probably been adjusted to compensate for this decrease.  Definitely check with the doctor prescribing adderall before changing anything.
