confused about the inactive aviane pills and the risk of pregnancy

Hi, I am new to taking birth control. I started my first pack of Aviane (28day) 3 weeks ago. Tonight when I take my pill, it will be of the 4th week (white pill). I started my pack on the Sunday after my period.. actually I think my period was that weekend, so I took it that Sunday. I had unprotected sex last night and am worried about pregnancy. I take my pills roughly around the same time each night and I have been on it for nearly a month. Also, what do the white pills mean? Does that mean I can't have unprotected sex while on them, since they are inactive? I'm kind of confused and concerned.

Thank you so much for your time!

in regards to the inactive Aviane pills

Hi Jennifer, I actually Have the same question about the inactive pills that you have. So if and or when you do get a reply, can you please let me know by emailing me, or if you do research and you find the answer, contact me. I do think you are going to be fine though, because I have been on it for about 7 montghs now, and me and my husband have unprotected sex, all the time, even when your supposed to be on the inactive pills. The reason I have the same question though, is because Now after 7months, I’m in my second week, and I started spotting for 3 days, and I’ve been super nausious. So either I just haven’t been feeling well at all, or God really wants this baby to come.. :0) Hope to hear from you soon. Take care!

Aviane pills and answers to you question

The white pills are "inactive" in that they do not contain the hormone dose that the others do. This is so your period will occur. If you do not take the white pills and remain on the colored ones, you will not have a period for that month (some women actually prefer to do this -- my doctor has me on a program where I take 3 packs worth of active pills before taking the white ones).

The pill hormones work to stop ovulation. Ovulation is what gets you pregnant, to put it simply. Without ovulation, there is no risk of getting pregnant. By the time you begin taking the white pills, the egg is ready to drop, and it is incapable of being fertilized.

So, don't worry about getting pregnant off of the "inactive" pills! You only need to worry about a pregnancy risk if you miss two or more dosages of the active ones.
