Prenatal vitamins help your body prepare for conception, as well as protect the baby from birth defects that may occur even before you know you are pregnant. Most neural tube defects happen in the first 6 weeks of pregnancy, a time when many women don’t know they are pregnant. Also, the increased iron in prenatal vitamins help your body store iron for when you will need it later during pregnancy.
