addiction to Diphenhydramine hydrochloride?By Sick and Sad from Lost on December 11, 2005 Category: Diphenhydramine hydrochloride Why do I feel so sick to the stomach when I am not taking Diphenhydramine hydrochloride found in allergy medicine? And how do I get beyond this? I take it and it like stays in my system for several days – but I can tell when it is out of my system because I get very weak and very nauseated to my stomach. If I take another dose I feel fine. It sounds like my body is addicted and gets ill when it does not have it. I can not let this go on. I have to be fine without this stuff. Please help with any suggestions on how to get beyond this point. I don’t know what to do to alleviate the pain. I go days and feel sick for days until I feel forced to take more just to be productive for a while. Something has got to give. |
re:additcted to Dipemhydramine HydroclorideIf at all possible please stop taking this medication. I am a 41 yr old woman who for at least 14 years took 1 benadryl a night for sleep aid and before that had to take it to relieve terrible morning sickness. I was addicted for years. I have now developed hairy cell leukemia and I now think it was the benadryl that caused it. All of the side effects in the hemotology that this drug causes I have gotten. I became anemic, my blood counts ave dropped to critical levels and of course I have developed leukemia. I have been able to stop using it by tapering off. I took 1 tablet at night every 2 days for 1 week, then went to 1 tablet every 3 days for 1 week and so on until I was able to make it without any. Took about 3 weeks. Also taking a sudafed will help ward off some of the nausea while you are tapering off. It is very hard to go cold turkey off of this medication. I was not able to do it that way. They say it is not an addictive drug but I'm not so sure. All I know is when I looked up the side effects I had almost all of them. I am hoping that since I am no longer taking the drug I will get better but we will have to see. The reason you feel nausea is because antihistamines dry up secretions in the inner ear and that is where your feeling of nausea comes from. I guess the body becomes dependant on it and doesn't know how to react without it but in time it begins to adjust. I hope this information is helpful.
