Safety of Zometa Injection

My Mother is 65 years old, and she had Breast Carcinoma in 1985 which was not metastasized that followed by mastectomy. Since that time, she had frequent checkups that reflect all normal & no recurrency.

Later investigations show that she has moderate to sever Osteoporosis which causes some bone attrition at the site of articulating vertebrae resulting in a sever pain. Orthopedics in United Arab Emirates prescribed Zometa Injection for her per a year:

*Is that save and good treatment of reliable enough supporting articles or not yet improved?;
*and as no cancer is there, is it prescribed as a prophylactic?
