my elderly 81 year old father

My elderly father (81) has been seen by many different drs. over the years for abdominal discomfort & losing weight. He's barely maintaining a weight of 116-120 only by drinking one beer every day. He's had 2 colonoscopies to remove benign polyps & since then he's been struggling to not lose weight. He used to be around 140--healthy for him, he's 5'9". Sometimes he'll get down to 114--he would die if he keeps losing weight. He has a good appetite (usually) & eats healthy. We think the 2 colonoscopies flushed away all of the good & healthy bacteria. He can eat hearty, even full of calories & fat & weigh at night--maybe 125 after eating-- & in the morning, every morning, he will have lost 5 to 6 pounds!! What a 'good' weight loss program for those of us wanting to lose weight--but not good for him. We're into healthy alternative ways to make things better--we don't want drugs (side effects, etc.) & would prefer holistic ways to treat things. I've been doing research & came across pepto-bismol being good for intestinal bacteria (whether it's h.pylori or something else)--would this be good for my otherwise healthy father? He's willing to try anything.I love the fact that it's my favorite color! Pink! What do you think? Thank you for any information.
