Husband's multiple ProblemsBy Joyce Graham from Anderson, S.c. on November 12, 2009 Category: Hydroxyurea My husband has been on hydroxurea for a couple years along with about 13 more meds. This medicine in his case, was for extremely high blood platelets. Also he has copd; asbestosis with benign tumor in his lung; atrial heart fibrilation; high blood pressure; very narrow esophoghus; is on oxygen and had a "peg" feeding tube, put in a month ago. We go to the local free clinic and he has the best critical care Dr. around, but time is short and only gets to see him every three months. He is now having more and more "break through bleeding", everywhere, where the least touch against something is injuring him and making him bleed. Now I am noticing tonight, a big bruise has just come up under his breast. Please get back to me and tell me if you think that the bruising and the bleeding is coming from the hydroxurea? Are there other options of medicines for someone with platelets dangerously high? Thank you very much. Sincerely, Joyce Graham |
Can You Get To You Husband To An Emergency Room?Unusual bleeding or bruising is one or the severe, life-threatening side effects of Hydroxyurea and other drugs -of its type- that lower the red blood cell count. You should seek Emergeny Medical Care as soon as possible. Hope this answers your question! By Byron K. Daniels from Little Rock, AR on November 16, 2009 | Reply | Write a Reply |
