Lantus vs Novolog

I contacted Diabetes and was given Lantus in the pen form. Also given Humalog in case the sugar was up too high I was told to inject myself in 5 unit increments. I understand that it is a fast acting insulin which is used to get the sugar down quickly.

After going to the VA to get my insulin they put me on Novolog at 2 injections per day at 5 units each. I also take two pills per day with a meal. Am I to take the pills and the Novolog? What is the difference between Lantus and Novolog?

I am getting a little confused.

Cordially, Richard DiNaso
