Damage to infant development by phenobarbitol

My grandaughter was hospitalized and diagnosed with Kawazaki's syndrom at three months old.  Prior to her proper diagnosis and treatment, she suffered seizures in the hospital due to the constant high fever which did not respond to any medication, which is typical in the Kamazaki's syndrome.

She was succesfully treated and relased after 10 days in intensive care.  The neurologist who saw her at the hospital, wanted to make sure she did not have any seizures afterwards and treated my grandaughter with phenobarbital for 4 months.  After verifying that everything was normal with an MRI's that came out perfect, she initiated the gradual discontinuation of the phenobarbital.  By that time, my grandaughter was 8 months old.

Noticing her slow speech development, and other issues, she has now been diagnosed with unspecified Developmental Delay in the communication, cognitive and motor levels.  She is 19 months old.

From every research I have done so far, Phenobarbital can have caused this.  My question is:  Can the effects be reversed?  Will they last for her lifetime?  Are there any recommendations to counteract these terrible side effects?

I will appreciate your answers.
