bactrim side effects, itching and allergic reactions

After taking bactrim for 10 days without any side effects, I started having intense itching at my hands and feet, the day after I finished the medication. The bactrim was prescribed for a suspected bronchial infection, which was developing after a 2 week period of sickness, with flu-like symptoms. The intensity has decreased, but has not subsided completely. The itching is actually painfull and I can only use benydryl, cortisone cream and aveeno oatmeal baths to curb the discomfort. It has been 8 days since the itching began and I need to know how long the reaction might last. This has obviously proven that I am allergic to sulfa-based medications. I have had no other reactions to any medications up to now. Any information to stop the discomfort or estimates about the length of this reaction would be greatly appreciated.

Bactrim side effects

My husband had a severe reaction to Bactrim which started March-April 2008.  He still has rashes on his legs and has trouble with his hands swelling at times.  When is this all going to end??

I would go to the physician that prescribed you the Bactrim to see if you have Steven-Johnson syndrome. It is caused by certain antibiotics, being sick combined together. It goes away with certain other antibiotics and steroids.
