Budeprion XL 300

Category: Wellbutrin XL (Oral)

My pharmacy just filled my prescription for Wellbutrin XL 300 with the generic substitute (Budeprion XL 300). While the generic has the same pharmacologic composition as the Wellbutrin (300 mg of bupropion HCI), I've started to notice returning symptoms of depression. I haven't been able to find out much about Budeprior XL 300 as it's new on the market. Does anyone know why the generic might not be as effective? Has anyone else had the same occurrence of depression onslaught when changing to generic? Thanks.

Mrs.

I just got my mothers presciption filled and she had reiceved the generic for Wellbutrin XL. There is nothing on this website to find out why she is having the side effects that she is having. I would like to know that if it is new and nobody has been able to post the effects of this drug for the knowledge of us at home then why is she being given this drug. She is sick and many different side effects that she doesnt get from the wellbutrin.

I have been on Budeprion XL 300 for 1 month, and I have experienced the same depressive feelings and symptoms. I'm very disappointed with this medication, and I am ready to call my physician to prescribe something else because I think the generic Wellbutrin is not working. My husband had the same experience with generic Paxil.

I also had my prescription for Wellbutrin XL 300 filled with the generic Budeprion XL 300 and have had symptoms of depression return. I was surprised to learn from my doctor she had heard of several people experiencing the same problem with this generic form. I had done very well with the the Wellbutrin SR 150 and had some slight problems with the shift to the Wellbutrin XL 300 but nothing like with the Budeprion XL 300. What can be done to get this generic Budeprion XL 300 off the shelf before something bad happens? I am unable to pay for the brand name and insurance won't cover brand if a generic is available. I really didn't want to have to be switched to a different type but it appears I'm headed down that path again. Has anyone changed to a different type and has the new type been successfull in treating your depression?

I have had the same trouble with depression since my pharmacist switched me to this generic of Wellbutrin XL. I do not like it. Today I've also been experiencing extreme itching beneath my skin unlike anything I've ever had before. Has anyone else experienced this?

Budeprion XL 300 symptoms

Hello. I read your bulletin and I can relate to your side effects. Three weeks ago, my doctor presrcibed Wellbutrin XL to me and gave me a two week sample. First week, I was on 150 mg then the second week, 300mg. After my dad went to the Drugstore to get the prescription after those two weeks, i had the generic, Budeprion XL 300mg. However, I didn't feel like I was on the Wellbutrin. When I was on that, I felt moe energy and i could feel it working. However, when I went on the generic, I didn't feel any of those things. I felt just like I did before I started the medicine. Also, it is making me gain weight which the Wellbutrin made me lose some...which I must say I liked b/c i need to lose some extra weight and that is why i am on depression medicine is b/c of my weight. So for the generic to be making me gain...I dont like it AT ALL!!! But i'm glad to hear that someone else is having the same problem as me. I guess i'll have to go back to the doctor and try something else. Good luck!

In response to Budeprion not being as effective as Wellbutrin. I have also switched to the 300 mg Budeprion XL from Wellbutrin and have absolutely noticed an increase in my depressive symptoms. That is exactly why I was searching the web...in hopes that I could find some information. I am a nurse and have always believed generics were equivalent, but in this case...something is different!!

I would love to hear explanation as to why there would be a difference??????

My pharmacy has also changed my presciption to the generic form of Wellbutrin XlL due to a change in prescription plan. I too have noticed the return of depression symptoms since switching to the generic form. I have tried several other antidepressants and this was the first one that resolved my depression. My prescription plan refuses to pay for the name brand and I cannot afford the name brand on a monthly basis. Does anyone know why the generic, which is supposedly equivalent to the name brand, is much less effective?

Budeprion XL 300

I too started to take Budeprion as a subitute for Wellbrtrin last month, I found myself not wanting to leave my house. I cryed for dumb reasons. I also had a rotting feeling in my stomache, I gained 6 pounds, eating alot of breads to absorb that feeling. I thought maybe like any meds, they take 4 to 6 weeks to get use to.

Not happy with the generic drug for wellbutrin xl 300mg

i have been on wellbutrin xl 300 mg once daily since september 2006. i filled a generic prescription budeprion xl300mg about a month ago and also noticed that feelings of depression were coming back to me. I called the dr, they called caremark, they said there was no generic wellbutrin xl. they are sending me another prescription name brand. Now that did not make sense. That is why I am on the internet right now.

Reactions from taking Budeprion XL 300

I have also noticed a change in my skin with taking this medication. I have skin discoloration on my stomach area which appears to be isolated. As far as the depression goes I don't notice any recurring depression. Wellbutrin XL I would prefer having and really felt uncomfortable taking the generic version, I then called my doctor who called my insurance company and I am now back Wellbutrin XL not the generic, I was also advised that the discoloration was from the medication, I thought I have HIV due to these marks but thru tests it wasn't thank heavens. I believe the pharmacy should advise of change in medication prior to filling the prescription.

Budeprion XL

I too have noticed a big chnage since I started taking the gnrc version Budeprion XL in lieu of Wellbutrin XL. I've been on the gnrc version for five weeks now and have been severly depressed for the past two weeks, even suicidal thoughts have returned. I'm also experiencing nausea and pounding headaches. Can your PCP request that a patient be switched back to the original version?

I too have notice a difference since switching from Wellbutrin XL 300 to Budeprion XL 300. I gained 10 pounds in a two week period. I hadn't changed my eating pattern. Lots of fruits, vegetables, chicken and fish. Also I'm easily agitated, daily sad moods and have experienced leg pain, leg numbness while laying down and restless legs at night. Which interfers with my sleep.I have been told they are the same. Only been taking the generic for three weeks.

Budeprion XL 300mg

My pharmacy filled my prescription for Wellbutrin XL 300mg with the generic Budeprion XL 300mg. Since taking this generic formula, I have been more depressed as each day passes. Not wanting to get out of bed, gaining 7-8 lbs., no desire or motivation to do much of anything. I am asking my doctor to write a new RX that requests "no generic substitution".

BUdeprion XL 300

I have been on Wellbutrin 300 mg for 2.5 yrs. In this time I have more confidence and enjoy getting out and being around people and in 2 years time I lost 20 lbs. I was 275 lbs. I did notice that I was frequently tired but I was happy. My insurance at work recently changed and I decided to try the generic Budeprion XL as it only cost me $10.00. For the last 60 days, I have lost an additional 20 lbs and have more energy than I did previously!!! Most entries that I have read from other people on the internet have had negative remarks about Budeprion, but fortunately for me and my wallet, it has worked wonderfully.

Budeprion Not Even Close to Wellbutrin xl 300

I accidentally came across this website because I got on the computer to search the name Budeprion xl 300. This site came up and I was amazed and releived because this is the reason I was looking it up in the first place. I have been on Wellbutrin xl 300 for about a year. Last month when I refilled my perscription the pharmacy gave me Budeprion instead. I'm all for generic, so I didn't think alot about it. In about a week I started feeling different. I felt more depressed and irritable, etc. I even tried to pass it off as PMS. Well, PMS doesn't last all month!!! I'm afraid if my doctor gives me the name brand perscrition my insurance will not refill for another 2 months. I can not keep taking these for that much longer. I would turn these back in, in exchange, but I don't think a pharmacy takes returns.

BUDEPRION XL 300mg

I have been taking Wellbutrin and Welbutrin XL for a number of years with much sucsess with my depression.

This month I had my doctor rewrite my prescriptions, and as normal I was prescribed Wellbutrin XL. When I got home I found Budeprion XL.

After taking Budeprion for two weeks I can feel my depression starting. Last week I missed a few days of work because I feeling depressed. Today I called my doctor and informed her of my feeling like I am starting to slip. I requested that she call my pharmacy and dispense Wellbutrin XL, nothing generic.

I thought it was only me that felt like this on this generic Wellbutrin. I think this may be one of these drugs "rushed" through the FDA.

I WAS PUT ON BUDEPRION XL, STARTIN @ 150MG WITH AN INCREASE TO 300MG. I'VE BEEN ON IT SINCE 2/28/07. I SEEM TO BE MORE DEPRESSED THAN I STARTED OUT. I ALSO CRY FOR STUPID REASONS. I CAN CRY FOR A WHOLE WEEKEND. A CAR CAN BEEP AT ME AND I START CRYING. WHAT KIND OF DRUG IS THIS. I DON'T EXPECT A MIRACLE, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO FEEL SOMEWHAT NORMAL. AT LEAST I DIDN'T GAIN WEIGHT. OH, IT IS ALSO THE XL. what concerns me is the previous letter stating that there isn't a generic for wellbutrin xl.

Budeprion XL VS. Wellbutrin XL 300 mg.

At one point I was on Lexapro and went from my normal weight of 130 (I'm 5'6") all the way up to 172 lbs!!! I came off of that anti-depressant and was put on Wellbutrin XL, I lost the weight over time and dropped back to my normal weight of 130-131 lbs. My TennCare stopped paying for it so my doctor called and told them it was medically necessary to stay on it because I have heart problems and need to stay at a healthy weight, since I lost all that extra weight my chest pains had stopped too. I was paying a $3 co-pay which was no problem at all, but now they have put me on Budeprion XL 300mg, my diet hasn't changed, I still eat healthy fat-free foods, and diet soda as before.

But in the past couple of months I thought I was plumping up more because my jeans didn't seem as loose as before. I stepped on the scale this morning only to find now I'm at 140 pounds!! I have been more depressed, feeling worthless, irritable, and my anxiety is getting worse, and I just haven't felt like "myself" like when I was on the Wellbutrin XL. I called my doctor in hopes that I can come off this generic version, and get back on brand name... because it is making me worse than before, weight and mood wise. If anyone needs to talk with me more on this my e-mail is dablonde260@hotmail.com (I'm Wendy), good luck to everyone having the same problems.

Unhappy with generic Wellbutrin

I have been taking Wellbutrin for several years. Recently I started taking the generic form Budeprion xl 300mg and it just doesn't work as well. I have several friends who also have had the same experience. My insurance will not pay for the Brand name when the generic is available. Any idea on how I can get the "real stuff" again?

It could be the Budeprion coating

I've had the same experiences over the years, first with the Wellbutrin SR generic. Went back to the brand name and felt better. Now I am on the generic XL and have discovered that the tablets are not breaking down once inside my body. While I will spare everyone the less than savory details it was quite obvious that the pill's coating was still intact, with much of the medicine still preserved.

I have asked doctors about this, and along with confused looks, was suggested to take digestive enzymes. I have yet to conclude whether this has helped.

I have been doing research on enteric coatings, and though I don't know if this medicine contains it, they are designed to break down more gradually as they pass through the digestive tract. I also suffer from other minor digestive ailments and take, among other things, Nexium. This may lower the acidity in my stomach to the point which the initial coating is not breaking down.

Anyway, FWIW.

Cost Must Make a Difference!

I have been taking Wellbutrin for almost 4 years now. About 3 months ago, my pharmacist took it upon himself to swap out brand Wellbutrin for the generic due to the cost increase. I thought it would be fine even though I know my body doesn't work well on generic drugs of any kind. Lately, I have noticed myself gaining blubbery weight and climbing back into a hole. I even asked my therapist if I needed something different. Today, I told him about the generic brand I had been taking. He strongly discouraged the generic form of Wellbutrin and said other patients of his had experienced the same feelings I have had which I described as wanting to burst out of myself. I will reconnect with my old, faithful Wellbutrin in the morning.

Budeprion XL 300 does not work!

My employer changed our medical plan this year and Caremark is the new mail in pharmacy. Most of my medications were due to be refilled right after the first of year and the Wellbutrin XL 300 was one of them. I received the Yellow pill named Budeprion XL 300 and just assumed since it was generic it was OK. My depression and back/neck pain went through the roof. My doctor sent me to a psychriatist and he gave me Cymbalta (in addition) to the Budeprion. It was a bad trip folks!!! I couldn't stay awake at work, had nightmares every night, ripped my sleep apnea air hose in to pieces three times and was a total zombie. I gained about 15 lbs in the three month nightmare.

Primary doctor told me to quit the Cymbalta and for the first few days I felt pretty good and then I started feeling like my body was full of electricity. Everytime I moved I felt like I was be shocked. I realized this was the same feelings I had when I first started taking anti-depressants. My doctor prescribed the name brand Wellbutrin XL 300's and within a few days I was back to normal.

Same subject-different drug...generic Norco made by Watson is no good either. After 5 days of slowly withdrawing from the drug and being pain I realized something wasn't right. I called my back surgeon's office and I was the third person they had had called complaining about the very same thing. Walgreen's in Omaha changed suppliers recently and now use Watson. Please Beware!!!!

Thanks

I began taking Wellbutrin XL 150 when I was much younger. Recently I have been feeling depressed so I went to the Doctor and once again he prescribed me Wellbutrin XL 150. Well, when getting my refill yesterday I noticed that it said Budeprion XL 300. So today I decided to look up how it was the generic, and I have found many complaints about the Budeprion. Many people have said that it makes them feel even more depressed than they have been before, and others were saying it was making them gain weight, and their appetite was getting bigger (which in some cases is a side effect for depression). I'm a big girl and when I was younger Wellbutrin helped me loose weight. When I got put back on Wellbutrin I was kind of glad to find that I was loosing weight once again. I just started Budeprion so I don't know the side effect just yet. Reading your posts have been very helpful and if I notice any changes I will definately know what's wrong. So once again thank you so very much for this information.

Sincerely,

Amy

I was doing good untlil the samples ran out and I filled the prescription. Thank you TEVA for making me an absolute wreck. I have never been so depressed in my life. I've never contemplated suicide untell Budeprion XL. I'm on my way to the Dr.

wellbutrin vs. budeprion

I have been taking Wellbutrin XL 300mg for several years. The only side effect I seem to have with it is my hands shake. (the skaking stops if I stop the Wellbutrin) Last month my pharm. refilled my script with the generic Budeprion XL. I was pleased there was now a generic to save some money. I just refilled it again this month. For the past few weeks I have been very emotional, like I was before the Wellbutrin, and I have also noticed dizziness when I stand up or turn around quickly. I never thought the problems were related to the generic but after reading an article in the newspaper, I looked it up on the web and found this site about others with the same problems.

Switched from Wellbutrin XL-not happy!!

My pharmacy switched me to budeprion XL 300 from Wellbutrin 3 weeks ago and I thought I'd try it and see what happened. My depression and anxiety are ok, but I have an insatiable appetite for sugar and my neck and shoulders have been killing me. I didn't think anything of it until a week or so ago and wondered if it could be related. I read that someone else was having neck and back pain seemingly because of this. Are there more of you out there that are having neck, back and shoulder pain since you've been on the generic? I'd love to know because I feel stupid for suggesting that it is related, but this has been going on for 3 straight weeks with no relief and numerous visits to the chiropractor and massages for the pain. I don't like this!! Why mess up a great thing. I love my Wellbutrin XL!!! If anyone else is having neck, back or shoulder pain, please e-mail me @cherylosborn1@suddenlink.com.

Budeprion XL 300

I have been on Wellbutrin XL 300 for over 3 years. It worked great; I lost 30 pounds and felt a lot better. Three months ago, my insurance gave me Budeprion XL 300. I started to notice my depression come back along with a few pounds, anger outbursts, crying over small things, worthlessness and lonliness. I called my insurance and told them Budeprion is not working for me. They said they would contact my doctor to have him submit a letter as to why I needed the brand name. A few days later I got a letter from my insurance. They denied my claim, saying there is NO CLINICAL EVIDENCE for me to go back on Wellbutrin XL. Does anyone know where I can find clinical evidence to send to them?

I too am having issues with Budeprion XL 300mg. Side effects have increased, hypotension, nausea, headaches. I was using a generic 100mg buproprion at 2x per day. My doctor wanted to increase my dose to 300mg and said I should go on the 300mg XL, generic. I do not feel good on the generice and am skeptical about taking it anymore.

Bedeprion XL 300 and abdominal pains

I was on Wellbutrin XL 300 beginning in 2005. I was on for a year and a half and felt great (normal), lost weight and life was good. I tried going off but the normal feeling slowly went to depression and I gained about 15-20 pounds. In March 2007 I went back to the doctor to get back on Wellbutrin. My perscription was instead filled with Bedeprion XL 300 and at first thought that was great because instead of $20 I pay only $7 co-pay. But soon I would sometimes begin having obdominal pains and diarrhea about 4 hours after I take the medicine. On my next refill I asked the pharmicist to switch me back to Wellbutrin XL 300. whiche she did.

I've been on brand-name Wellbtrin XL 300 for three days now and already notice a significant difference in my stomach and stool. It's still a little early to know for sure, but I'm slowly being convinced the generic Budepromine was causing my abdominal issues.

<blockquote>

Just for the record, I intend to contact my doctor in the next few days either (a) to let him know my symptoms and status so he can note it in my record if I'm feeling better or (b) set up an appointment to talk about my abdominal issues if I'm not feeling better.

</blockquote>

Mr.

I have read all of the posts here in detail. I have been on Welbutren and now am on Budeprion XL. Some of the complaints here about the genaric make no sense to me. Welbutren is not a good drug for anxiety. It is indicated for Depression an mild anxiety (which everyone has), not acute anxiety, which is abnormal. It is also indicated for Attention Deficit Disorder due to the stimulating nature of the drug, and also has been taken for weight loss.

So, if you are taking either of these drugs for acute anxiety, you are probably wasting your time. You should probably be mixing Welbutren (or the genaric) and something that is actually good for anxiety, like Zoloft.

I have seen no differece in Welbutren and the genaric, Budeprion XL, except an emotional fear of switching medications (which is what I think a lot of you are also feeling).

If you are gaining weight on Welbutren, you probably have a night eating disorder linked to anxeity, rather than depression, and should be on Zoloft too.

The Dr. put me on welbutrin xl 150.  After about 2 weeks My dose was increased to 300mg.I was asked if I wanted the generic at the pharmacy, and not knowing any better took the generic. When I was on the welbutrin I notced I had more energy and had lost my appetite.  After being on the generic for the last three weeks its as if I havent been on anything.  Still loss of appetite and a pretty good energy level except I feel like Im coming out of my skin.  My arms and legs itch so bad that I have scratched myself raw.  I noticed this after taking the generic for 1 week.  The Dr put me on the welbutrin to help me stop using snuff and to lose some weight.  I think Im using more tobacco than before I was on the welbutrin or the generic!  As for appetite thats been pretty much the same.  Personally I think both welbutrin and budeprion are shit.

Major issue with Budeprion XL 300

I am glad I stumbled on this website.  I was switched to the Budeprion XL 300 when my Wellbutrin 150 wasn't working as well as I liked.  After a month of taking it, my anxiety was out of control.  I had as close to a breakdown as I have ever had.  I wasn't able to direct my own thoughts and couldn't focus on my face in the mirror.  I thought it was an overdose of the medication, but now I understand it could be this generic.  Thank you for sharing your experiences, we should try to do something to get this generic off the market.

Budeprion XL 300

I needed to renew my Wellbutrin XL and online it said this BudeprionXL300 was ready to be picked up. I went to a web search and read all the posts that people sent in and I am ready to cry. I was a mess till I got on the Wellbutrin XL, I take that plus 40 mg. of fluoxetene, the generic for Prozac and I felt like a new person. The depression was gone, I felt alive again and told everyone with this issue to try it. Now this. I am so upset I am calling my Dr. first thing in the morning. I am out of Wellbutrin XL and I cannot go on a generic that so many people have had recurring symptoms with. I also do not need the weight gain, I have high blood pressure and take Diovan HCT for that as I am already 100+ pounds overweight, and to top it off I just started Nutrisystem to lose weight paying $180 a month for the shipment of the product. I love the food, and I am starting to lose already in the first week. I cannot deal with taking a generic when I am trying so hard to lose weight and keep my life on track and out of the pits of depression. I saw myself in every letter I read, and God help me if I have to go back to feeling like I did before. I cannot live that way and I am desperate for my doctor to make sure I get the Wellbutrin Xl. I will respond when I get the answer to my request to stay on it. I am so scared now, I feel like it will come back and I can't deal with it.

Thank you everyone! I was on Wellbutrin for almost 1year. I lost 30 pounds, had more energy, more confidence and no more depression. Then, 3 months ago, I was given the generic, Budeprion. I started crying everyday, became extra sensitive, gained my 30 pounds back because I am always nautious and craving starches or sweets. I now have stomach pains. I asked to be switched back to the original Wellbutrin but my insurance won't cover it. After reading all these comments I'm just going to pay the full price rather than have my body pay the price.

Jill,

I started with Wellbutrin 300 and when the generic came out I was automatically switched over and I haven't experienced any untoward or unusual side effects while put on the Budeprion. My medication has been prescribed by an MD in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry who sees me every 2 months and I was given this prescription approx. 4 years ago. Happy to share...Peter

Generic brings back symptoms

I began looking online regarding Budeprion because I began to experience increased appetite, irritability, depression and insomnia, along with night sweats. I wondered what was going on but after a few weeks suspected it might be the generic medication since I'd unfortunately had the experience of taking generic Vicodin after surgery that DIDN'T WORK. I'd had a knee injury and found some left over in my medicine shelf after I went digging, because I'd remembered how well the Vicodin had handled my pain previously. As I suspected, the brand name Vicodin took care of my pain-- what a relief! That was really awful since it was major surgery and I was in tremendous pain. I felt a huge difference the first time I took the brand name Vicodin. As I said, that made me question the effects I was having on the generic Wellbutrin, although at first I couldn't believe it had happened to me again. Like so many others, even though they are more expensive, I'm going to request my doctor fill my prescription with "do not substitute".

At first my husband and I were happy to see that there was a generic that cost less.

That was, until he took it.  He went back to his extreme moods right away.  It just isn't the same as Wellbutrin.

Budeprion XL 300, me too.

I found this site because I was looking for info to see if Budeprion XL isn't working as well as regular Wellbutrin XL. I've noticed a big change in my mood since this past Saturday and I thought it might be due to switching to the generic. I've missed a lot work this week because I feel so bad. I can't afford to miss more work. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one. I think I'm going to have to go back to Wellbutrin. I think I can cope a little better now knowing that it's the medication and not a general change in my mood.

Don't switch from wellbutrin tho

I took Wellbutrin for a while and then got better so I thought I would be fine without it. That lasted for about a year but then I wanted to get back on it. When I got the prescription Walgreens gave me the option to get the generic and I did. I have only been on the generic for about a week and I'm not sure if some of my emotional symptons are a result of this or what but when I took wellbutrin for almost 2 years it worked wonders. It takes a while for these type of medications to really "WORK" so side effects may be present for a while that you have to go thru to get to the real help it gives you. But just don't get the generic anymore, don't switch from wellbutrin bc it really does work. I am on the net checking on this generic one and I will probably stay with it for a couple more weeks to see what happens, but I will get the brand name if it doesn't help. Wellbutrin does what it is supposed to so just don't switch, especially to Zoloft, because it had really terrible effects on me. That's my advice.

It's new

I think this generic form is really new and they don't realize the difference yet. But if you don't mind me asking, how much more is wellbutrin than it's supposedly generic form burdeprion? I dont know bc i never got the brand name from a pharmacy. If it is about $30 bucks to $50 bucks more it might be worth it depending on how badly you really might need it. Because the brand name is definitely better than this garbage generic form.

Your Pharm

Have you talked to your pharmacy about any options about paying for the name brand instead of the generic. I think that's stupid that your doctor prescribes you the name brand Wellbutrin but you can't get the actual medication that he prescribed you. I'm not sure but I know some pharmacies will be more able to work with you in getting the name brand instead of the generic. I know I will pay the extra to not have to deal with the ridiculous side effects of the generic bc why be put on a medication that doesn't help you. I have always stuck with the name brand and just this last time I got the generic. I won't settle for that bc I know that Wellbutrin works!!! It really does. If you cant do the Wellbutrin, see about Lexapo, a friend of mine has positive effects from it. The only negative is that it reduces you sex drive and ability to climax. Sorry if that was too forward, but just trying to help.

read the Budeprion XL 300 info too

The script information that comes when you fill it, well at least from walgreens says that the tablet might come out in your stool. WHY? Medicines are made to dissolve in your digestive system to work through your body. If the entire tablet comes out in your stool how the hell did it do anything to you. They say in to info pamphlet that your body has already absorbed the medicine and this is just the empty shell. What shell, it's a powder pill not a capsule pill. Talk to you doctor to get the real Wellbutrin. It does work and now that I've read all this crap I'm scared that I switced to the generic last week. I've been seeing the same effects as everyone else and I know I won't stand for it.

definite problem with generic wellbutrin xl (budeprion)

When I switched from Wellbutrin xl to the generic Budeprion xl, I felt awful. I felt my depression return also. I mentioned this to my DR. She said the generic has to be identical by law & dismissed it. An article in the Feb 08 issue of Prevention magazine (are generic drugs safe) caught my eye. They mentioned similar complaints about Budeprion XL. They brought the issue to an independent lab to examine.  The lab determined that the budeprion sr was identical to the wellbutrin sr. The generic for the wellbutrin xl proved different. The time release action in the 2 drugs are noticably different. The generic seems to dump 34% of the drug into your system within the 1st 2 hours. At 4 hrs the generic has already dumped half of the active ingredient into your system. There's hardly any active ingredient left for the remaining 24 hrs. The regular wellbutrin xl releases the active ingredient more slowly.  This report was filed with the fda in Nov 07. We will have to wait to see how the fda reacts. I filed a complaint online with the fda (fda.gov/medwatch).  I figured the high amount of consumer complaints may spped their action.

I would suggest that you see anojther doctor. Some doctors benifits when you take different drugs. This is the first time i ever heard of a person taking two med's for the same reason....... I would get a second openion.

BUDEPRION is a worthless generic.

It was one year ago that my pharmacist informed me of a prescription change when I went to get a 'Buproprion' refill. He instead gave me a generic called 'Budeprion'. Reason being insurance will cover only the cheapest generic. I had no objections because I had been taking the non brand (Wellbutrin) 'Buproprion' XL 300 for 4 years with great results and felt so fortunate that I had finally found an anti-depressant that worked for me. It being a generic with a different name didn't seem important. But as time went by I noticed dramatic changes. Some days were worse than others and consequently I resorted to excessive amounts of alcohol to feel better. I turned to the internet for answers and there they were loud and clear. At my request my doctor put me back on 'Buproprion' XL 300 with no questions asked. It's been only 3 weeks and already that heavy weight has been lifted. I expect with time I'll be feeling even better. With all the people who are struggling with depression and who depend on the effectiveness of prescribed medications to ease their symptoms how is it that a drug manufacturer could be allowed to continue marketing a drug that is a dud for so many people? Would a substandard heart medication or cancer drug be approved by FDA and marketed with the knowledge that it has been ineffective? Possible, but not likely.

Wellbutrin switch to bupropion

Re: Joan from Pa on February 11, 2007--I too was on wellbutrin and it was the first time (in the 18 years of trying so many different anti-depressants that I lost count) that I was prescribed something that worked. It even helped me to stop drinking. But A year or so ago I was switched. I didn't notice it at first, in fact, it took until now, after reading all these other post, that my depression WAS coming back. I thought I was just having some bad days at times because I was still generally happy. But I told my husband recently, I dont know whats wrong with me, I just feel down all the time lately. I feel like I've lost my joy. Now I know why. What can we do the get the insurance companies to pay for wellbutrin again? Please help because I can't stand the thought of having to go on ANOTHER medication that JUST WONT WORK. I'm literally in tears right now because I never want to go back to the blackness and hopelessness of depression.

Emotions taken away by generic Wellbutrin

I've been taking anti-depressants for 20 years. Zoloft was the best and I took it for 7 years. It took away the depression and I felt alive. It stopped working and I tried several meds until I settled on Wellbutrin. I am not happy with the generic version. Don't recall ever taking the brand name Wellbutrin. The main complaint I have about the medication is that I don't feel like I'm alive. My emotions are gone. I feel like I am going through the motions of life but I'm not fully engaged in it. I feel like my life is slipping away. I told my doctor that the medication makes me too "even Steven" and his reply was "that's what the medication does." I've been off Zoloft for about 12 years. I wonder if it will work for me again.

Generic Wellbutrin

Yes, I had the same itching like crazy i thought i was going crazy. it feels like little bugs are pinching me and it itches. i know i dont have bugs or anything. i read up on it online because it bothered me that much! and the best explanation was that my mind was creating the itchy feeling! lol now i know its the generic drug that doesnt work. At first, my doctor had me on 150 mg which worked wonders, then i was taking two and it got better, then he had me take one 300mg pill and IT ALL FELL APART! i almost lost my job because i was so depressed i didnt go for couple days. This is truly HORRIBLE and how is this LEGAL! to keep selling medication that is dangerous and beeing recalled and deny people THE GOOD MEDICATION THEY NEED!!! SOMEBODY HAS TO DO SOMETHING!
My doctor gave me prescription for brand name, when i went they filled the previous doctor prescription (generic). I noticed it when i got home so i went in the morning offering to return the generics to get MY REAL PRESCRIPTION, the Walgreens pharmacy said "NO CAN DO!" even after i mentioned the recall, they said there was NO RECALL! made me feel like i was getting something illegally, i had a prescription for crying out loud and a mistake was made!!! I STILL DONT HAVE THE MEDS I NEED EVEN THO I HAVE VALID PRESCRIPTION FROM MYYYYYY DOCTOR! they filled the wrong prescription from my previous doctor and im no longer under his care! all they say is sorry, you have to take it up with the insurance!!! TALK ABOUT THE RUN AROUND! i wouldnt care if THIS DRUG WAS NOT SO DANGEROUS (im feeling paranoid, depressed and tingly creepy itchy feeling that wont go away, like bug walking on my skin, i hate it!) and i wouldnt care if i DIDNT NEEEEEED THE MEDS MY DOCTORS ACTUALLY PRESCRIBE THAT WALGREEN WONT FILLLL!
OMG. ARE WE IN AMERICA PEOPLE, IS THIS REALLY HAPPENING!!!!
