New studies on this drug for pregnant womenBy Sheila from Miami,FL on October 28, 2006 Category: Acyclovir I am 15 weeks pregnant and I have a skin rash, bumps, blisters that are very painful on my inner thigh on right leg. Two days later some new bumps came on the same leg but the back side. These bumps were very painful. I went to my OB and she referred me to the dermatologist. The dermatologist stated it was a form of Herpes/Shingles. I was stunned. She stated I had the chickenpox as a child and now I am pregnant, my immune system is suppressed. My doctor prescribed 4 capsules 5 times daily. I thought she meant take 4 capsules each day for 5 days. I started taking the meds on Tuesday, 10/24. My husband discovered I was taking the meds incorrectly and stated I should have been taking 4 capsules 5 times a day that makes it a total of 20 capsules per day. I was shocked and stunned. I did get the OKay of my OB to take the meds after the dermatologist wrote the prescription. The rash was clearing up with the dose I was taking, eventhough incorrectly. Should I continue to start taking the correct dosage. This dose seems like a lot (800 mg times 5 times a day). Will this drug hurt my baby?
