Hysterectomy and BreastfeedingBy Cindy Spohn from Fort Worth, TX on October 16, 2006 Category: Gynecology I am having a vaginal hysterectomy the first week of November. I will be keeping my ovaries. Also, I plan on no general anesthesia. My ob/gyn has said that we could do it with an epidural. My pain tolerance is very high and I plan on not taking any pain medication other than Motrin if needed afterwards. I had a baby 12 weeks ago and breastfeed only. My questions are: (1)Will I be able to continue to breastfeed our son after the hysterectomy? (2)I have never had an epidural will it have any effects on the milk? I really do not want to wean him. I am trying to pump in order to have some bottles if needed the first day. I greatly appreciate any help you can give in trying to find the answer. I am needing to prepare our son and myself if I am not able to continue nursing. Thank You |
