pupil dilationBy Unknown on October 07, 2006 Category: Opcon-A (Ophthalmic) This evening I used Bausch & Lomb opcon-A drops in one eye due to itchiness from my cat's dander. Twenty minutes later I was washing my face and when I looked in the mirror I noticed that that pupil was extremely dilated and the other one was normal. I proceeded to freak out and started thinking the most awful things possible, such as an aneurysm pressing on cranial nerve III that was causing this. My brilliant sister then decided to try putting the drops in one of her eyes to see if they were the cause of this and sure enough ten minutes later her one pupil was significantly larger than the other. What is it that causes this to occur? Is it the active ingredient naphazoline HCL or the pheniramine maleate? No where on the bottle or on their website does it say that this can occur and I think it should be on the label for any other poor soul who puts drops in one eye only and then doesn't put two and two together. |
