Gaviscon and constipation

Hi there

Please could you explain why Gaviscon has stopped me going to the toilet about 6 times a day, I have just recently had a camera put in at both ends and I have been told there was nothing wrong. My symptoms are severe indigestion all the time even drinking water, sets me off belching, almost uncontrollably. With the additional problem of permanent wind in my stomach and having to go to to the toilet to empty my bowels up to 12 times a day.

I have tried various remedies to resolve, and when I recently was having severe bouts of the runs lasting for up to 2 hours at a time and not being able to leave the toilet during the whole time, I decided to stop taking everything, and try just Gaviscon which I have never taken before.

Things are now brilliant I have got my life back on track and do not birp anywhere near like I used to, only just for a few minutes after taking the Gaviscon. I have also stopped going to the toilet now and am down to just once a day, bordering on constipation. I feel so much better taking Gaviscon, I have now started to put a little bit of weight on, which is not a bad thing as my husband said I was starting to look scrawny.

I only take a 10-15ml dose every night at bed-time and wonder why this medicine is having such a brilliant effect, I am concerned about taking Gaviscon every day for the rest of my life and decided to check on side effects. I am now concerned as your site says to consult your doctor if you get constipation.

If I don't take Gaviscon for one night the next day I am back to all my usual problems of going to the toilet a million times a day and the indigestion.

Please can you advise if I am OK to continue taking Gaviscon, and explain why such a small dose has such a dramatic effect.

Thank You
