Side Effects of Pseudovent 400By Kelley Senko from Oakland, NJ on October 04, 2006 Category: Pseudovent 400 (Oral) My doctor just prescribed this to me last night. I took my first dose before bed and fell asleep shortly after (12 Midnight). Around 2 a.m. I woke up panicked and felt like I might be halucinating. It made me very nervous and I was not able to go back to sleep for approx 2 1/2 hours. Is this a normal reaction? Would I be better taking this a different time of day or should I just stop taking it and call my doctor? |
Don't take it at nightI'm on the same medication for a sinus infection and while I'm not a doctor, I'll share what I've dug up.
Turns out it is a combination of Pseudophedrine and Guaifenesin. The first might look familiar, this is what's in Sudafed and similar products. It's used as a decongestant to get the gunk out of your nose. The other is an expectorant and is used to get the gunk out of your lungs from any mucus that drips, primarily when you sleep. It doesn't make sense to take this med before you go to sleep because you can't exactly cough when you're sleeping, which negates the Guaifenesin. I'm taking it in the morning with breakfast, since eating with food speeds absorption, and then again about 6 hours before bed. My day is usually 16 hours long.
Like I said, I'm no doctor but it just doesn't make sense to take something that's supposed to make you cough up phlegm right before you sleep.
As for the symptoms, I had a hard time sleeping the first night, but last night, my second on the med, I had no problem. What usually helps to put me to bed is not watching TV or doing anything on the computer for 1 hour before bed. This helps to shut the brain down, or at least have it in a state that will more easily move into sleep when the time comes.
Hope this helps, Andrew By Andrew from Detroit, MI on October 26, 2006 | Reply | Pseudovent 400 side effectsI started taking Pseudovent 400 at night before I went to bed. I have never had trouble sleeping before but for 2 weeks I can hardly sleep because as I am drifiting off I got the most horrible feeling that I was dying. Could this be from the medication?
