Pupil won't function

I had a detached retina and had very successful surgery with a gas inserted in the eye and when the retina was inplace then the laser surgery. This took place in early April. My vision is now perfect, however, my pupil will not function. The Doc says it may have been traumatized from the procedure and he has me using Pilocarpine Hydrochloride Ophthalmic Solution 1%, 1 drop each day. This shrinks the pupil (he says it will get it moving again and then should take off on it's own soon) and also gives me a headache, some confusion, some dizziness and my brow aches later in the day.

I have used this for 3 week and nothing is happening with the pupil moving on its own without the medication. First of all....is there any indication that this technique will actually get the pupil moving? And if it doesn't work, can a person live with a continuously dilated pupil? And is there something I can do like an eye excercise to help the situation? I really need a little more information at this point to calm me down about this condition. Thank you so much for your response.
