Generic or notBy francisco s from hialeah, fl on June 22, 2006 Category: Nifedical XL (Oral) my question is this, our doctor gave my mother in law a prescription for procardia xl for high blood pressure but when we go to the pharmacy they issue "nifedipine xl 30mg" and our question is , which is the generic for procardia, nifedipine or nifedical.? she got a bottle of nifedical xl 30mg last month and this month we got nifedipine xl 30mg, and in the bottle of this one it says "substitute for nifedical" not substitute for procardia, so my wife likesto know if both medicines are generic of procardia xl and if we can tell the pharmacist we want thenifedical not the nifedipine? please i will apreciate this very much because my wife is nagging me about this because she thinks one of these two medications is not correct to give to her motheri went to the pharmacy and i got a paper explaining that procardia xl is the original medication and then it shows nifedipine xl30mg right on top of the page as generic but after it shows also nifedical xl30mg so it is very confusing. please i expect your replyasap sincerely thanking you in advance. francisco r soto |
Generic for ProcardiaFrancisco, I had the same exact question when my wife was prescribed Procardia and given Nifedical. However, I talked with my pharmicist (whom I trust - he has been working with my family and me for years) and Nifedical is indeed a generic substitute for Procardia. As for the other drug you mentioned (Nifedipine?) I am not sure. Since my wife was given Nifedical, I did not ask about that one. However, it seems it would probably be a different variant of the same generic drug. The advice I always give is - ask your pharmicist. If your pharmacist doesn't take time to answer your question - get a new pharmicist! Hope this helps - Roger, USA By Roger from US on June 28, 2006 | Reply | Write a Reply |
