Swollen Ankles, Feet ,Legs and Joint Pain

Category: Nifedical XL (Oral)

The above condition was reported to my health care provider. I was given a diurectic pill and potassium tablet to take. It seem to alievate the problem for awhile but now I'm having the same problem again. I take 60mg of the medication once a day. I also take Atenonol 2 times a day (50mg). Should I ask my provider to take me off the Nifedical XL?

Niphedical and edema

I have taken Niphedical for many years. The swelling (edema) is a normal side effect that even taking a diuretic might not fully solve. There are other drugs in this class, although they all have this possible side effect. Whether you should continue to take it depends on how bad the pain is and whether there are alternative hypertention drugs. I don't have any alternertives. Try wearing surgical socks to lessen the pain, or ankle socks to avoid pressure from crew socks.

swollen ankles, feet and legs and joint pain

My feet and ankles are swollen all day, I wake up with swollen and as the day goes by, the pain in the legs start. It is 6 am and they hurt already. I went to the doctor with no results, I also went to a vein doctor to see if that was my problem and he said my veins were pretty good for my age. 63

He said it may be my pills i take, so I have cut down on some but no help. My whole body just hurts, I'm sure some of it is old age but some I don't know.Ache all the time.

I take

HCTZ 25 mg once a day (some times I skip taking it)

Diltiazem 90 mg twice a day (sometimes I skip and take one instead of 2 aday)

levothyroxine 75MCG once a day.

simvastatin 40 mg one at bedtime. ( sometime I skip taking it.)

The Diltiazem I tried taking only one a day but no help.

I will be going for blood work again next week, but my feet and legs are really starting to bother me a lot. I'm scared and would like to know what the next step to help.

I do wear support stockings when I work, but not all the time.

If you can give me any suggestions I would be very thankful.

I hope I can help-

You said that you went to your doctor with no results. I would have changed doctors immediately. Also, I would wear support stockings all the time. I know how difficult they are to get on. But, they will be of tremendous benefit to you. I would suggest a 20-25 mmHG pressure to start off with and then go up to whatever your NEW doctor recommends.

I would not purchase the stockings and or panty hose from the drug store, as they are to expensive. I can suggest some sources for purchase at a reasonable cost if you are interested.

You also mentioned that your pain may be due to your age. I don't think so. I am 68 and do not consider myself old. I am in a wheelchair and have had cerebral palsy all of my life.

Don't feel sorry for yourself and become proactive in your health care. Find a doctor who will take the time to listen to you. Don't overburdened the doctor with every little problem that you may have in your life. Take care of the big problems first and once they are under control you will be able to think and act more decively.
