Has anyone every reported after starting the medication developing an eye infection? It seems twice now that after I start it (by the 2nd pill), I end up getting something like conjunctivitis. I really love what the medication does with my mucous, but it would be interesting to know if anyone else has had this problem.

my side effects

Mucinex loosened my stool to the point of diarreha on a few occasions, but nothing too bad.

Side Effects

Well, I found this site because I'm looking into the possibility of eye problems after my husband used Mucinex D for just a few days. Right now one pupil is larger than the other (actually it seems the smaller pupil is too small) and tomorrow he is having an MRI. I have read that some sinus medications can cause eye problems and I'm trying to figure out if this over-the-counter drug had that effect. He has never had this problem before.

Side Effects of Mucinex

I began taking Mucinex this week and I was a bit paranoid after a few days because I began having a soft stool. However after the first day of dosage I did not have any late night coughing attacks and it has cleared up a lot of the congestion in my chest and throat. I have begun having slight headaches, but not to the point that I need medication.

Blue in the face from Mucinex

I the full dose of mucinex before going to bed one night, and half a in the morning before leaving for work. After only 2 days of using the medicine, I took my regular multi-vitamin with a half dosage of mucinex. The next morning, I woke up with a blue-greenish tent to my face color, and my lips were slightly orange. My only guess is that it was a reaction to the vitamin.

Side Effects of Mucinex

I have had the same problem with mucinex. I began taking it yesterday and this morning woke up with liquid stool. I don't know if that is the way the medication flushes the mucous or if it is an effect of the medication itself. I have found no legitimate side effects listings on the bottle and perhaps there are some on the box but I think I threw it away. I will continue searching and post if I find anything. Seems a little fishy to me... But it seems to be working.

Muniex caused my eyes to water

I used Mucinex DM and my eyes got very swollen and watery.  In addition I broke out into a rash on my face so badly. BUt once I stopped the rash went away.  I would never use this product again.

It itches and I came here to see if anyone else had a reaction as it appears they do.. thank you for posting this as I had no idea what this was caused from!

Mucinex causes black stools.

After taking Mucinex for two days I have black stools, upset stomach, feel weak and still have a head cold. Will not take this medication again.

Took it, had pink eye after

I took Mucinex due to heavy mucus and a bad cough. Well the next morning I woke up, my eyes were nearly glued shut with "gunk". Went to the doctor and yup, was diagnosed with pink eye. The eye drops for pink eye cost a small fortune (I didn't have health insurance).

Basically buying a box of Mucinex costed me about $220+ for a doctors visit & getting prescription eye drops. I'll just stick to other methods of relieving my cough & mucus.

Nasty eye stuff

I tried Mucinex this morning, by noon my left eye was full of yellow gunk, and it keeps producing. I wondered if it was side effect but it is strange only one eye? I have to chalk it up to Mucinex at this point.

Mucinex, "pink eye" and diarrhea

A number of posters on this site have tied the use of Mucinex to pink eye and to diarrhea or watery bowel movements. Consider the possibility that those symptoms may have nothing to do with Mucinex; they may be caused by the virus itself. Suppose you come down with what you think is a "cold" and a bad cough. You take Mucinex for the cough. Two days later, you wake up with watery stools and/or gunky eyes. "Aha, it must be the Mucinex!" No, maybe it was the virus, and the Mucinex is simply a red herring.

Here is what one website says about a family of viruses known as adenoviruses: "Adenovirus often infects the airways and the intestinal tract. An infection usually manifests with symptoms similar to a common cold. There is a sore throat, runny nose and eyes, sneezing, headaches, COUGH and fever. In some persons infection with adenovirus may also cause croup or bronchitis. Some infections may also lead to CONJUNCTIVITIS (pink-eye), skin rash, DIARRHEA and bladder infections."

Before you blame the medication and swear never to take it again, consult a medical professional.
