Classification: CNS stimulant See Also: See also Amphetamines and Derivatives. Action/Kinetics: Completely absorbed in 3 hr. Peak effects: 2-3 hr. Duration: 4-24 hr; t 1/2: 10-30 hr, depending on urinary pH. Excreted in urine. Acidification increases excretion, whereas alkalinization decreases it. For every one unit increase in pH, the plasma half-life will increase by 7 hr. Uses: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in children, narcolepsy. Adderall contains dextroamphetamine sulfate, dextroamphetamine saccharate, amphetamine sulfate, and amphetamine aspartate and is used in children aged three years and older who have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or narcolepsy. Adderall provides similar relief as methylphenidate but with an extended duration of action, allowing for once or twice daily dosing. Special Concerns: Use in children less than 3 years of age for attention deficit disorders and in children less than 6 years of age for narcolepsy. Not recommended as an appetite suppressant. How Supplied: Tablet: 5 mg, 10 mg. Adderall: 5 mg, 10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg.
