Classification: Antihypertensive See Also: See also Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide. Content: Diuretic, potassium-sparing: Amiloride HCl, 5 mg. Antihypertensive/diuretic: Hydrochlorothiazide, 50 mg. Uses: Hypertension or CHF, especially when hypokalemia occurs. Used alone or with other antihypertensive drugs, such as beta-adrenergic blocking drugs and methyldopa. Special Concerns: Use with caution during lactation. Geriatric clients may be more sensitive to the hypotensive and electrolyte effects of this combination; also, age-related decreases in renal function may require a decrease in dosage.
