Zarontin (Oral) is used for the Treatment
Ethosuximide (eth-oh-SUX-i-mide) Treats seizures in patients who have epilepsy.
When To Not Use Zarontin (Oral)
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to ethosuximide or to similar medicine, such as methsuximide (Celontin®).
How Should You Use Zarontin (Oral)
Liquid Filled Capsule, Liquid
- Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often.
- Take with food or after meals to avoid stomach upset. If a dose is missed:
- Take the missed dose as soon as possible.
- If it is almost time for your next regular dose, wait until then to take your medicine and skip the missed dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time, unless directed by your doctor.
Proper Zarontin (Oral) Storage
Store Zarontin (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Zarontin (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Zarontin (Oral)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- If you take more than one medicine to treat seizures, your doctor may need to check your blood levels of the medicines to make sure you are taking the right doses.
Zarontin (Oral) Warnings
- Check with your doctor before taking ethosuximide if you have liver or kidney disease.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine. If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, tell your doctor right away.
- Do not suddenly stop taking this medicine unless you have first checked with your doctor. To avoid increased seizures, you may need to take smaller and smaller doses before stopping completely.
- This medicine may cause drowsiness or dizziness. Be careful if you are driving or using dangerous machinery.
Zarontin (Oral) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Chest pain
- Fever, sore throat, unusual bleeding or bruising
- Skin rash, hives, itching
- Joint pain with fever and weakness If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Stomach pain, appetite loss, nausea, vomiting
- Dizziness or drowsiness
- Irritability, trouble sleeping
- Diarrhea
