what will happen to me if i take this prescription of z-cof?
i am very concerned about this prescription. i am allergic to codine and i have been prescribed z-cof hc. will it harm me to take this? i break out in a rash and get hott flashes. is it safe for me to take this med?

Z-Cof HC (Oral) is used for the Treatment
Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Hydrocodone Bitartrate, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride Treats cough, runny nose, and stuffy nose caused by a cold or upper respiratory tract infection.
When To Not Use Z-Cof HC (Oral)
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to hydrocodone, phenylephrine, or chlorpheniramine. You should not use this medicine if you have asthma or if you are are pregnant. Do not use this medicine if you have used an MAO inhibitor (MAOI) such as Eldepryl®, Marplan®, Nardil®, or Parnate® within the past 14 days.
How Should You Use Z-Cof HC (Oral)
Liquid
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- You may take this medicine with or without food.
- Drink extra fluids so you will pass more urine while you are using this medicine. This will keep your kidneys working well and help prevent kidney problems.
- This medicine is not for long-term use. If a dose is missed:
- If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Proper Z-Cof HC (Oral) Storage
Store Z-Cof HC (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Z-Cof HC (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Z-Cof HC (Oral)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Tell your doctor if you are using any medicines that make you sleepy. These include sleeping pills, cold and allergy medicine, narcotic pain relievers, and sedatives.
- Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.
Z-Cof HC (Oral) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, blood vessel disorders, problems with blood circulation, or high blood pressure.
- This medicine may make you drowsy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.
- Older adults may be more likely to become drowsy while using this medicine.
- This medicine may be habit-forming. If you feel that the medicine is not working as well, do not use more than your prescribed dose. Call your doctor for instructions.
Z-Cof HC (Oral) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
- Fast or uneven heartbeat.
- Lightheadedness or fainting.
- Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness. If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Blurred vision, dry eyes.
- Change in how much or how often you urinate.
- Constipation, upset stomach, nausea, loss of appetite.
- Dry mouth.
- Headache.
- Nervousness, irritability, or feelings of extreme happiness.
- Ringing in your ears.
