Sensipar (Oral) is used for the Treatment
Cinacalcet (sin-a-KAL-set) Lowers the amount of calcium in your blood. You might have too much calcium because of cancer, problems with your parathyroid gland, and other conditions.
When To Not Use Sensipar (Oral)
You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to cinacalcet.
How Should You Use Sensipar (Oral)
Tablet
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- Your doctor will use the results of your blood tests to decide how much medicine you should take. Keep all appointments so you can make sure you are using the right amount of medicine.
- It is best to take this medicine with food or shortly after a meal.
- Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, chew, or break it. If a dose is missed:
- If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to use the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Proper Sensipar (Oral) Storage
Store Sensipar (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Sensipar (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Sensipar (Oral)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using ketoconazole (Nizoral®), erythromycin, itraconazole (Sporanox®), flecainide (Tambocor®), vinblastine (Velban®), thioridazine (Mellaril®), or medicine for depression (such as amitriptyline, nortriptyline, Elavil®, Norpramin®, Vivactil®).
Sensipar (Oral) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have liver disease or a history of seizures (such as epilepsy).
- Your doctor will need to check your blood at regular visits while you are using this medicine. Be sure to keep all appointments.
Sensipar (Oral) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Numbness or muscle pain, stiffness, or cramping.
- Seizures. If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite.
