Salflex (Oral) is used for the Treatment

Salsalate (SAL-sa-late) Treats pain, fever, and arthritis.Belongs to a group of drugs called salicylates.

When To Not Use Salflex (Oral)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to salsalate, aspirin, or pain and arthritis medicine such as Motrin® or Aleve®. Salsalate should not be given to children or teenagers with fever, symptoms of the flu, chicken pox, or viral infection. You should not use this medicine if you have an active ulcer or bleeding problem.

How Should You Use Salflex (Oral)

Capsule, Tablet

  • Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often.
  • Swallow the pill whole; do not crush, break, or chew.
  • Take this medicine with food or milk to avoid stomach upset.
  • If a dose is missed:
  • May be taken as soon as possible.
  • Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose.
  • You should not use two doses at the same time.

Store Salflex (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Salflex (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Salflex (Oral)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol while taking salsalate.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking blood-thinners (Coumadin®), probenecid, cortisone medicine (prednisone), or methotrexate.

Salflex (Oral) Warnings

  • Check with your doctor before taking if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have asthma, kidney problems or a history of ulcers.
  • Salsalate may cause incorrect results with some urine sugar tests used by patients with diabetes.

Salflex (Oral) Side Effects

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Severe stomach pain
  • Brown or red, grainy vomit
  • Blood in stools or urine
  • Skin rash or hives with intense itching
  • Swelling in the face or eyelids
  • Wheezing or trouble breathing
  • Severe dizziness or drowsiness
  • Ringing in the ears
  • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Upset stomach
  • Heartburn
