I have been taking Protonix for over five years now. After I suffered a painful hiatal hernia, I developed a severe case GERD, and was prescribed the drug by my doctor. The pain I experience daily is often intolerable, and Protronix is the only medication that brings me relief. I can't live without this medicine, but my insurance company refuses to pay for it. They will pay for the generic version, but it provides no relief at all.

I recently had an endoscope. The results led my doctor to recommending 80 mg of Protonix per day. This has definitely helped as far as my gerd problem goes. On the other hand, I have had to deal with the driest and most annoying cough in history.
