PHYTONADIONE (Injection) (Injectable) is used for the Treatment

Phytonadione (fye-toe-na-DYE-one) A form of vitamin K used as a supplement to prevent bleeding disorders.

When To Not Use PHYTONADIONE (Injection) (Injectable)

You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to vitamin K or if you are in the last few weeks of pregnancy.

How Should You Use PHYTONADIONE (Injection) (Injectable)

Injectable

  • Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
  • An IM injection is a shot given in your muscle (upper arm, thigh, buttocks). An SC injection is a shot given just under your skin. An IV infusion is medicine that is put directly into your body through one of your veins.
  • This medicine can sometimes be added to total parenteral nutrition (TPN) solutions. Make sure you understand how to open the ampule (the tube the medicine comes in) and add the medicine to your TPN liquid. Your doctor or caregiver will tell you how to use the medicine.
  • This medicine should be given by a person trained to give IV, SC, or IM medicine, such as a nurse. Sometimes you, a family member, or friend can be taught to give your medicine.
  • If you are getting the IV medicine, check the bag to make sure there are no leaks. Make sure the liquid in the bag is clear.
  • If a dose is missed:
  • This medicine needs to be given on a regular schedule. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Then go back to your usual dosing schedule.
  • If you miss more than one dose, call your doctor for instructions.

  • Dizziness, fast or irregular heartbeat

  • Pain, swelling, or tenderness where the shot was given
