Persantine (Oral) is used for the Treatment
Dipyridamole (dye-peer-ID-a-mole) Keeps blood clots from forming after some types of heart surgery. Also used to prevent strokes and heart attacks.
When To Not Use Persantine (Oral)
You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an unusual or allergic reaction to dipyridamole.
How Should You Use Persantine (Oral)
Tablet
- Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- This medicine works best if taken on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, take it with food or milk. If a dose is missed:
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember unless it is less than 4 until your next usual dose.
- If it is less than 4 hours until your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your medicine at the usual time.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.
Proper Persantine (Oral) Storage
Store Persantine (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Persantine (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Persantine (Oral)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using Anturane®, Ticlid®, or blood thinners such as aspirin or Coumadin®.
- If your doctor has told you to take aspirin with this medicine, take ONLY the amount of aspirin prescribed.
Persantine (Oral) Warnings
- Check with your doctor before using this medicine if you have low blood pressure or chest pain.
- Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Stand up slowly from a sitting or lying position to decrease dizziness.
Persantine (Oral) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Chest pain
- Skin rash, severe itching or hives
- Yellowing of skin or eyes If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Dizziness, lightheadedness, headache
- Nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset
- Flushing (redness) in the face
