I had an unplanned home birth, so I think beuasce childbirth went relatively smoothly (I could push in the position comfortable for me, at a pace dictated by me, not by doctors/nurses; I didn't have an IV or catheter swelling me up with fluids, etc.) that recovery also was pretty smooth. You can try making a tea out of comfrey leaves, dribbling that onto a sanitary pad, and then freezing it. It then does double-duty as a pad for postpartum flow and as an ice pack. Finally, PetiteMandoo asked me about this. I totally recommend doing the traditional Asian postpartum tradition of a 1-month rest. The idea being that your body has been through a major change and if you do the rest properly, you can reset any imbalances in your body. In the Taiwanese tradition, you don't drink plain water but instead drink herbal teas and lots of soups. Also lots of high fiber foods whole grain rice and porridges, steamed veggies, fish and braised fish. I'm so glad I had these super healthy meals prepared for me beuasce I most definitely didn't want to push, and with this diet I didn't have to. You're also not supposed to be walking around a lot, and go outside uncovered (bare skin exposed to wind).I do think that your recovery has been harder beuasce you've had to do so much walking and stress. The Taiwanese people would be horrified at all the strain & physical work you've been under beuasce this is your time for pampering and rest!
