Oxytocin (ox-i-TOE-sin) Brings on or strengthens labor contractions during childbirth. Also used to control bleeding after childbirth, or to induce an abortion.

You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to oxytocin, or if you have ever had a ruptured uterus or a previous C-section that left scar tissue in your uterus.

- Fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat
- Extreme thirst, confusion, agitation, weakness, muscle twitching
- Lightheadedness or fainting
- Seizure (convulsions)
- Sudden, severe, and ongoing headache
- Unusual bleeding or bruising If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
