When To Not Use OXAPROZIN (Oral) (Tablet)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to oxaprozin, aspirin, or any pain and arthritis medicines such as Motrin®, Indocin®, Naprosyn® or Aleve®, Tolectin®, or Clinoril®. The reaction may have included wheezing or trouble breathing, hives, rash, or swelling in the face.

How Should You Use OXAPROZIN (Oral) (Tablet)

Tablet

  • Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and how often.
  • Take the medicine with a full glass of water.
  • You may take the medicine with food, milk, or antacids (such as Maalox® or Mylanta®) so it does not upset your stomach.
  • If a dose is missed:
  • Take the medicine as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose.
  • Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next regular dose.
  • You should not use two doses at the same time.

Store OXAPROZIN (Oral) (Tablet) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep OXAPROZIN (Oral) (Tablet) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using OXAPROZIN (Oral) (Tablet)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking aspirin, blood thinners such as Coumadin®, or medicines called beta blockers (such as Inderal® and Lopressor®).

OXAPROZIN (Oral) (Tablet) Warnings

  • Check with your doctor before taking oxaprozin if you have liver or kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart failure, blood disorders, or ulcers or other stomach problems.
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking oxaprozin.
  • Ulcers and stomach bleeding are sometimes caused by this type of medicine. These problems can occur without warning signs. You may need to see your doctor for regular check-ups while taking this medicine.

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Severe rash, hives, or itching
  • Wheezing or trouble breathing
  • Swelling in the face or around eyes
  • Sudden decrease in amount of urine
  • Bloody or black tarry stools
  • Severe stomach pain or bloody vomit
  • Bloody or cloudy urine
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding
  • Unexplained fever or sore throat
  • Yellowing of skin or eyes
  • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Poor appetite
  • Diarrhea
  • Mild rash
  • Constipation (trouble having a bowel movement)
  • Sensitivity of skin to sunlight (use sunscreens)
