why is midrin unavailable. my pharmacy said the soonest I can expect a refill is the end of january 2011.

i have a question concering your medication called "Midrin". I once broke one of the tablets in half and found a small round white pill inside the midrin. Is that ussual? Please respond.

Duradrin, Amidrine, Migrin-A, Midrin, Migrazone, Va-Zone, Iso-Acetazone, Epidrin, Migratine, Migquin

Midrin (Oral) is used for the Treatment

Acetaminophen (a-seet-a-MIN-oh-fen), Dichloralphenazone (dye-klor-al-FEN-a-zone), Isometheptene (eye-soe-meth-EP-teen) Treats migraine and tension headaches.

When To Not Use Midrin (Oral)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to isometheptene, dichloralphenazone, or acetaminophen (Tylenol®), or if you have glaucoma, severe kidney or liver disease, certain types of heart disease, or high blood pressure. You should not use this medicine if you have taken an MAO inhibitor (such as Eldepryl®, Marplan®, Nardil®, Parnate®) in the past 14 days.

How Should You Use Midrin (Oral)

Capsule

  • Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and how often. Do not take more medicine or take it more often than your doctor tells you to. It is not safe to use more than 4 grams (4,000 milligrams) of acetaminophen in one day (24 hours).
  • If this medicine upsets your stomach, you may take it with food or milk.
    • If a dose is missed:
  • If you are taking this medicine on a regular schedule and you miss a dose or forget to take your medicine, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose.
  • Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Proper Midrin (Oral) Storage

Store Midrin (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Midrin (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Midrin (Oral)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are using an MAO inhibitor (Eldepryl®, Marplan®, Nardil®, Parnate®), or any medicines that make you sleepy (such as sleeping pills, cold and allergy medicine, other narcotic pain relievers, or sedatives).
  • Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine. Acetaminophen can damage your liver and drinking alcohol can increase this risk. If you regularly drink 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, do not take acetaminophen without asking your doctor.
  • Many combination medicines contain acetaminophen, including products with brand names such as Alka-Seltzer Plus®, Comtrex®, Drixoral®, Excedrin Migraine®, Midol®, Sinutab®, Sudafed®, Theraflu®, and Vanquish®. Carefully check the labels of all other medicines you are using to be sure they do not contain acetaminophen.

Midrin (Oral) Warnings

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have blood vessel disorders, circulatory problems, liver disease, kidney disease, or have recently had a heart attack.
  • If you feel that the medicine is not working as well, do not take more than your prescribed dose. Call your doctor for instructions.
  • This medicine may make you dizzy or drowsy. Avoid driving, using machines, or doing anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert.
  • Make sure any doctor or dentist who treats you knows that you are using this medicine. Acetaminophen may affect the results of certain laboratory tests.

Midrin (Oral) Side Effects

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in face or hands, swelling or tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in chest, trouble breathing
  • Dark-colored urine or pale stools
  • Extreme weakness, shallow breathing, slow heartbeat, sweating, cold or clammy skin
  • Lightheadedness or fainting
  • Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, pain in the upper stomach
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising
  • Yellow skin or eyes
    • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Mild skin rash

nothing I've tried,in the past 30 years, has helped as much as duradrin, so that I could go on and actually function, think, read, and lead my life. Once the pharmacists couldn't get the duradrin, my life has changed for the worst...I wish the manufacturer would put it back on the market, regardless of the low profit it was generating, and just do it for all the people it benefited, and whose lives it changed.

I have tried other Meds. None are as good for me as Midrin. Although I have recently found that Breathing Oxigen Level 7.5 for about 10 Minutes w/cold towell Helps as well. Good LUCK

I have been taking Midrin and/or the generic form. When taken as directed, just two capsules a day, it almost always cures migraines. I very seldom have to use more than two capsules a day. Unfortunately, I am not able to refill my prescription as the FDA has deemed Midrin as unsafe. I am now trying to find a migraine medication that is as effective as Midrin was. I’m not optimistic as I am very sensitive to medications which makes it difficult for me to find effective treatment without side effects. Before I began using Midrin I had not been able to find migraine medication that was effective without side effects. I am still searching, if anyone has any suggestions, please share them. I've read a little about Epidrin, does anyone know if it‘s similar to Midrin? If anyone is familiar with Epidirin or has used it would you please share your experience with me. Thank you.

I have bee using Midrin for nearly 40 years for Cluster headaches and have come to rely on it. I am very displeased that it has been taken off the market. I wonder if you can get it either off shore or on the black market. Please advise

I continually suffer from migraine headaches – sometimes up to five a week. Most are due to inclement weather. This medication has been the best to help those headaches. It is so good I am now able to function at a normal level and have returned to work. The medication is so mild and there are no side effects. Now, when I tried to refill it the pharmacist said they no longer make the medication. HELP! Is there anything comparable?
