When To Not Use MEZLOCILLIN (Injection) (Injectable)
You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to mezlocillin or any penicillin medicine.
How Should You Use MEZLOCILLIN (Injection) (Injectable)
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
- An IM injection is a shot given in your muscle (upper arm, thigh, buttocks). An IV infusion is medicine that is put directly into your body through one of your veins.
- This medicine should be given by a person trained to give IV or IM medicine, such as a nurse. Sometimes you, a family member, or friend can be taught to give your medicine.
- If you have your treatments at home, you should be given a special container for the used needles. Keep it where children or pets cannot reach it.
- If you are receiving IV medicine, check the bag to make sure there are no leaks. Also make sure the solution is clear. If a dose is missed:
- This medicine needs to be given on a regular schedule. Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Space out evenly the rest of the doses for that day. If you have questions about when to take your medicine, ask your doctor.
- If you miss more than one dose, call your doctor for instructions.

Store MEZLOCILLIN (Injection) (Injectable) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep MEZLOCILLIN (Injection) (Injectable) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using MEZLOCILLIN (Injection) (Injectable)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking probenecid before you take this medicine.
MEZLOCILLIN (Injection) (Injectable) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any cephalosporin antibiotic such as Keflex® or Ceclor® before you take mezlocillin.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have stomach or intestinal disease, asthma, liver or kidney disease, congestive heart failure, or allergies before you take this medicine.
- If your infection does not improve, or if it gets worse while taking this medicine, talk to your doctor.
- If the medicine gives you diarrhea, check with your doctor before taking medicine to stop the diarrhea.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking mezlocillin.

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Rash or hives
- Swelling of the face, throat, or lips
- Wheezing or trouble breathing
- Blistering or peeling skin
- Severe diarrhea (watery or bloody)
- Swelling, pain, or redness near where your IV is located
- Unusual bleeding or bruising If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Mild diarrhea or nausea
- Sore mouth or tongue
- Vaginal itching or discharge
- Pain where your IM shot was given
- Unusual or unpleasant taste in your mouth
