I had to take this for a colonoscopy prep. The instructions said to take 5 dulcolax tabs and then a bottle of mag citrate an hour later. After that, repeat that same dosage later in the day. My concern was that I've taken dulcolax many times before (I'm often constipated due to medications I'm on) and I was concerned that 5 may not work well if at all. Maybe I've built up some sort of tolerance to them but I have to take about 8 to have them work predictably and effectively.I didn't want to have the prep not be effective and have to reschedule the procedure. As a result, I decided to do the overkill route and take everything at once. I did the 10 dulcolax tabs and then both bottles of mag citrate an hour later followed by lots and lots of water to hopefully prevent cramping. Strangely, about an hour and a half after the mag citrate (and 2.5 hours after the dulcolax) rather than having to go I instead felt really constipated. This feeling lasted about a half hour and then the prep finally started to work. There was no cramping, maybe that was due to all the water I drank with the citrate. The lemon taste isn't that bad if you chill it and then drink it quickly. The only problem at this point was that I now could not stop going to the bathroom. I went all day, during the night and even the following morning only a few hours before the procedure. I was afraid that they may have to cancel due to this but they went ahead with it and everything was fine. I was embarassed and didn't tell anyone at the facility that I did the prep all at once. I'm sure that's why I must have gone to the bathroom about 20 times. I'm sure it was the cleanest my intestines have been since birth. In summary, it was easy to take, very effective and minimal discomfort. Just follow the instructions instead of doing what I did.
