How many weeks can I use Lidoderm patches/
My father fell and broke 2 of his vertabrae. He has been using patches everyday. I was wondering for how many weeks can he continue. I am wondering if he should stop using them. Please let me know.

Lidoderm (Topical) is used for the Treatment
Lidocaine (LYE-doe-kane) Treats nerve pain that is caused by herpes zoster, or "shingles."
When To Not Use Lidoderm (Topical)
You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to lidocaine or other "numbing" medicines, or to adhesive bandages.
How Should You Use Lidoderm (Topical)
Patch
- Your doctor will tell you how many patches to use, where to apply them, and how often to apply them. Do not use more patches or apply them more often than your doctor tells you to.Do not leave a skin patch on for longer than your doctor tells you to.
- The usual dose of this medicine is 1 to 3 patches applied to the painful skin area. The patch can be worn for up to 12 hours. Do not wear the patch for longer than 12 hours in any 24-hour period.
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after applying a patch.After applying a patch, do not touch anything until you have washed your hands.
- Before you remove the patch liner, you may trim the patch with scissors or cut it into smaller pieces to fit your skin areas.
- The patient instructions will show the body areas where you can wear the patch. When putting on each new patch, choose a different place within these areas. Do not put the new patch on the same place you wore the last one. Be sure to remove the old patch before applying a new one.
- Do not put the patch over burns, cuts, or irritated skin.If you feel a slight stinging or burning where you apply the patch, remove it right away. You may put the patch back on once the stinging or burning goes away.
- Put on a new patch if the old one has fallen off and cannot be reapplied. If a dose is missed:
- If you forget to wear or change a patch, put one on as soon as you can. If it is almost time to put on your next patch, wait until Then to apply a new patch and skip the one you missed. Do not apply extra patches to make up for a missed dose.
Proper Lidoderm (Topical) Storage
Store Lidoderm (Topical) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Lidoderm (Topical) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Lidoderm (Topical)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using medicine to treat abnormal heart rhythm, such as disopyramide (Norpace®), flecainide (Tambocor®), mexiletine (Mexitil®), procainamide (Procan®, Procanabid®, Pronestyl®), propafenone (Rythmol®), quinidine (Cardioquin®, Quinaglute®, Quinidex®), or tocainide (Tonocard®).
Lidoderm (Topical) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have liver disease. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any type of medicine.
Lidoderm (Topical) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
- Lightheadedness or fainting.
- Slow heartbeat. If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Feeling restless, jittery, or tired.
- Redness, swelling, or skin rash where you apply the patch.
