reaction when taking leothyroxine and also taking coumadin and dexamethasone


I have had a terrible reaction while taking levothyroxine - oral and now am taking coumadin and dexamethasone and I had severe shakes - left like seizures..I quit taking the levothyroxine and will see my Dr. in 3 days...

Levothyroxine (lee-voe-thye-ROX-een) Treats hypothyroidism (the body does not produce enough thyroid hormone).

When To Not Use LEVOTHYROXINE (Oral) (Tablet)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to any type of thyroid hormone.

How Should You Use LEVOTHYROXINE (Oral) (Tablet)

Tablet

  • Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often.
  • Take your medicine at the same time every day.
  • Take the medicine on an empty stomach.
    • If a dose is missed:
  • Take your medicine as soon as you remember that you missed a dose.
  • Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next dose
  • You should not use two doses at the same time.

Store LEVOTHYROXINE (Oral) (Tablet) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep LEVOTHYROXINE (Oral) (Tablet) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using LEVOTHYROXINE (Oral) (Tablet)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • If you are taking cholestyramine (Questran®), take it either 4 hours before or 4 hours after you take levothyroxine.

LEVOTHYROXINE (Oral) (Tablet) Warnings

  • Talk with your doctor before taking levothyroxine if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes
  • Do not change brand names of levothyroxine, unless you talk to your doctor. Look at your tablets when you get your prescription refilled. If these tablets are a different color or size than before, check with your pharmacist.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine without first checking with your doctor.

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Skin rash or hives with intense itching
  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Severe irritability or nervousness, tremors
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Severe diarrhea or intense sweating
    • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Anxiety
  • Headache
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Appetite changes, weight loss
  • Menstrual irregularities

It's not effective for me, but it could be an incorrect dosage. My doctor refuses to order a T3 or T4 test. I have heard from many people that levothyroxine is not as effective as synthroid, another synthetic medication. My friend is having success with a combination of cytomel and synthroid. I have having terrible side effects from this medication including depression, hair loss, fatigue, and I am always cold. My PCP dismisses my concerns. I want to find a new PCP and endocrinologist, but it's hard to get motivated when feeling this bad and invalidated.

I have been on Levothyroxine for over 17 years. Over the years I have had changes made on the dosage because I never felt normal. My levels have also tested as normal. After seeing numerous physicians and specialists, I have still received no help. My marriage and family have suffered because of my terrible mood swings. I feel very bad for my husband and children who have endured this illness with me. I feel out of control of my life. My symptoms have included weight fluctuations, dry skin, hair loss and cold hands and feet. When my dosage was changed to .150 everything got even worse. I am so frustrated with everyone and every little thing! It seems like there should be more help for people in my situation, as I know others must suffer from the same symptoms as I do. Whatever I do to try and help my situation it does not improve and I wonder if there is a more serious underlying problem besides the thyroid such as the pituitary gland or even my brain. I cannot afford health insurance so I am not sure what else anyone can do as I feel as though I am just a test rat. The situation is ridiculous. I so exhausted from feeling helpless and need answers. I feel I deserve happiness and normalcy.
