levaquin side effects rage?


have you ever heard of levaquin causing rage while taking it. This is the second time i have been on it. both times it sends me into these raging attacks. Could it be a reaction with some other medicine i am taking or chemical inbalance? i don't know ...

Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral) is used for the Treatment

Levofloxacin (lee-voe-FLOX-a-sin) Treats infections that are caused by bacteria. This medicine is a fluoroquinolone (floor-oh-KWIN-oh-lone) antibiotic.

When To Not Use Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral)

You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to levofloxacin or to similar medicines such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro®), enoxacin (Penetrex®), gatifloxacin (Tequin™), lomefloxacin (Maxaquin™), moxifloxacin (Avelox®), norfloxacin (Noroxin®), ofloxacin (Floxin®), or trovafloxacin (Trovan®). This medicine should not be given to children.

How Should You Use Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral)

Tablet

  • Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and how often. Do not take more medicine or take it more often than your doctor tells you to. Keep using this medicine for the full treatment time, even if you feel better after the first few doses. Your infection may not clear up if you stop using the medicine too soon.
  • You may take your medicine with or without food. To help prevent kidney problems, drink extra fluids while you are using this medicine.
    • If a dose is missed:
  • If you miss a dose or forget to take your medicine, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Proper Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral) Storage

Store Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using blood thinners (Coumadin®), theophylline, diabetes medicine taken by mouth (such as glyburide, Amaryl®, Actos™, Avandia®, Glucotrol®, Glucophage®), or pain or arthritis medicine (such as aspirin, diclofenac, etodolac, ibuprofen, indomethacin, Advil®, Aleve®, Daypro®, Dolobid®, Feldene®, Motrin®, Orudis®, Relafen®, Voltaren®).
  • If you are also using antacids, multivitamins (with calcium, iron, or zinc), sucralfate (Carafate®), or didanosine (Videx®) powder or chewable/buffered tablets, take these medicines at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after you use levofloxacin.
  • Avoid caffeine (coffee, soda, chocolate) while you are using this medicine.

Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral) Warnings

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a history of heart disease, heart rhythm problems, kidney disease, hypokalemia (low blood potassium), stroke, or seizure disorder (such as epilepsy).
  • This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use a sunscreen when you are outdoors. Avoid sunlamps and tanning beds.
  • Call your doctor if you have pain, swelling, or tearing of a tendon, such as in the back of your knee or ankle, in your shoulder or elbow, or in your hand or wrist. You may need to stop taking the medicine.

Levaquin Leva-pak (Oral) Side Effects

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in face or hands, swelling or tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in chest, trouble breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat
  • Seizures
  • Unusual bleeding or bruising, skin rash, redness, blistering, or peeling
  • Yellow eyes or skin
    • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Dizziness, nervousness, anxiety, confusion, or agitation
  • Muscle or joint pain
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation
  • Sores or white patches in your mouth or throat
  • Vaginal itching or discharge

I was given this medication for a very bad infection of the colon. The first night after taking it, I had trouble sleeping and had bizarre dreams. I decided to take it early in the day, about mid-morning. Taking it at that time had much less effect on my sleep. This is a very strong drug that does the job, but be sure to take it with food and plenty of water. It certainly cleared up my infection and kept me out of the hospital.

For four months I have been suffering from a debilitating sinus infection. I’ve had two consecutive sinus surgeries and was treated with seven different antibiotics. I was then prescribed Levaquin which I have since regretted. Two days into a 14 day treatment the side effects were what I would think would be equivalent to being hit by a bus. I continued the treatment despite the side effects as it appeared to be helping the infection which I had suffered from since November 2009. After 7 days of Levaquin I consulted my ENT and he recommended I discontinue using Levaquin. I was referred to an Arthritis Specialist who prescribed ant-inflammatory medication and narcotics for the pain which helps about 50% of the pain. My life has been changed forever. When I wake up I am very sore and stiff. For the first 4 to 5 hours after waking it‘s difficult to walk. My big toes are numb, my ankles, knees and hips ache and the muscles in my legs are continually sore. My lower back and neck hurt constantly. I’m experiencing severe aches in my shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers. I have a constant ringing in my ears. I used enjoy reading books in bed, now I can hardly hold them. I used to twirl my hair for hours on end but now I can only do it for 10 to 20 seconds. The most painful thing I can do is drive. Driving used to be an enjoyable escape for me but is now excruciatingly painful. I have a standing desk at work and even with all the drugs it is difficult to make it through the day. I am getting in trouble at work because sometimes I am "crabby". I have missed way more work than I used to which is not making anyone happy. I can't lose my job since I am the sole financial provider for myself and my disabled sister. I have been on my own since I was 17 and now feel like I am going to lose my life. Does anyone know of any help available? Any cures? Any hope?

Do you really think 2 days of levaquin would cause life changing symptoms such as those you've described?? Look for something else to blame it on. 17 years of practicing medicine.. never seen it.
