Lac-Hydrin (Topical) is used for the Treatment
Ammonium Lactate (a-MOE-nee-um LAK-tate) Treats dry, scaly skin conditions called xerosis (zer-OH-sis) or itchthyosis (ik-thee-OH-sis).
When To Not Use Lac-Hydrin (Topical)
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to ammonium lactate.
How Should You Use Lac-Hydrin (Topical)
Cream, Lotion
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to apply and how often. Do not use more medicine or apply it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- This medicine is for use on the skin only. Do not get it near your eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not use on skin areas that have cuts or scrapes, or where you have recently shaved. If it does get on these areas, rinse it off right away.
- Wash your hands with soap and water before and after using this medicine. Shake the lotion well just before each use.
- Apply a thin layer to the affected area and rub it in gently.
- Never share your medicine with anyone. If a dose is missed:
- If you miss a dose or forget to use your medicine, apply it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to apply the medicine and skip the missed dose.
- Do not apply extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Store Lac-Hydrin (Topical) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Lac-Hydrin (Topical) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Lac-Hydrin (Topical)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Do not use cosmetics or other skin care products on the treated skin areas.
Lac-Hydrin (Topical) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Do not use this medicine for a skin problem that has not been checked by your doctor.
- This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use a sunscreen or wear protective clothing when you are outdoors. Avoid sunlamps and tanning beds.
- If your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse, stop using this medicine and call your doctor.
Lac-Hydrin (Topical) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Peeling, hives, or raised areas on treated skin
- Severe skin itching, rash, or redness If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Changes in skin color
- Mild skin itching or dryness
- Stinging or burning of treated skin areas
