GUAIFENESIN (Oral) (Capsule
Guaifenesin is used to relieve chest congestion . Guaifenesin helps control symptoms but does not treat the cause of symptoms or speed recovery. Guaifenesin works by thinning the mucus in the air passages to make it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. Guaifenesin comes alone and in combination with antihistamines, cough suppressants, and decongestants. While it is often listed among preferred cough and cold medications for pregnant women, there may be some risks. Interestingly, guaifenesin is sometimes used to aid women who are trying to conceive. A few of the common brand names of are Brontex, Dyflex, Elixophyllin, Mucinex, Organidin and Robitussin.
