Femara (Oral) is used for the Treatment

Letrozole (LET-roe-zole) Treats breast cancer in women who have gone through menopause.

When To Not Use Femara (Oral)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to letrozole.

How Should You Use Femara (Oral)

Tablet

  • Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and how often. Do not take more medicine or take it more often than your doctor tells you to.
  • You may take this medicine with or without food.
  • Never share your medicine with anyone.
    • If a dose is missed:
  • This medicine needs to be given on a fixed schedule. If you miss a dose, call your doctor for instructions.

Proper Femara (Oral) Storage

Store Femara (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Femara (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Femara (Oral)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Femara (Oral) Warnings

  • Although it is unlikely that a postmenopausal woman might become pregnant, you should know that using this medicine while you are pregnant could harm the unborn baby. If you think you have become pregnant while using the medicine, tell your doctor right away.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are breastfeeding, or if you have severe liver disease.

Femara (Oral) Side Effects

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Chest pain
  • Cough or trouble breathing
  • Numbness or weakness in your arm or leg
  • Severe headache, slurred speech, vision changes
  • Severe pain in the back of your leg (calf)
    • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Bone, joint, or back pain
  • Hot flashes
  • Nausea, vomiting, constipation
  • Tiredness

Sometimes mind over matter can make a big difference. That is the path I'm going with as I take Femara. I haven't been on this drug long, so I don't know how effective it is yet, but I was disappointed to read about the side effects other people have suffered. My game plan is to stay positive and make the most out of life. I'm not going to focus on the negative at all. So far, so good. I haven't experienced any of the side effects that I have read about.

I had my first experience with radiation and lumpectomy about three months ago. Immediately after, my doctor put me on Femara. It might have been helping, but it was also making me feel depressed and tired. It eventually got to the point where I wasn't able to participate in healthy activities, which is not only important in regards to enjoying life, but also because these activities benefit my overall health. In addition to fatigue and depression, there was some shortness of breath. It was manageable, but still not something I wanted to deal with. I spoke to my doctor about these conditions and we have decided to take it down to a half does over one month. We can always make a second attempt at full dosage in the future.
