Ethyol (Injection) is used for the Treatment

Amifostine (am-i-FOS-teen) Protects the bladder from harmful effects caused by some anti-cancer medicines (chemotherapy). Also protects the saliva glands during some types of radiation therapy.

When To Not Use Ethyol (Injection)

You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to amifostine.

How Should You Use Ethyol (Injection)

Store Ethyol (Injection) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Ethyol (Injection) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Ethyol (Injection)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking diuretics (water pills) or any other medicines for high blood pressure. Your doctor may tell you not to take these medicines for 24 hours before receiving amifostine.

Ethyol (Injection) Warnings

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before you start your treatments.
  • Be sure your doctor knows if you have a history of heart disease, stroke, or TIA (transient ischemic attack).
  • This medicine causes nausea and/or vomiting in most people, sometimes even after receiving medicines to prevent it. Ask your doctor or nurse about other ways to control these side effects.
  • Your doctor may want to check your blood. Be sure to keep all appointments.

Ethyol (Injection) Side Effects

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Feeling faint
  • Rash, hives, blisters, or peeling of skin
  • Severe nausea and/or vomiting
  • Sudden dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Trouble breathing or swallowing
  • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Fever or chills
  • Sleepiness
