You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to erythromycin.
How Should You Use Erythrocin Lactobionate (Injection)
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
- An IV infusion is medicine that is put directly into your body through one of your veins.
- This medicine should be given by a person trained to give IV medicine, such as a nurse. Sometimes you, a family member, or a friend can be taught to give your medicine.
- If you are receiving IV medicine, check the bag to make sure there are no leaks. Also make sure the solution is clear. If a dose is missed:
- Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Space out evenly the rest of your doses for that day.

What To Avoid While Using Erythrocin Lactobionate (Injection)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking theophylline, a blood thinner (such as Coumadin®), Seldane®, Hismanal®, Claritin®, Lanoxin®, Tegretol®, Halcion®, or cyclosporine (Sandimmune®).
Erythrocin Lactobionate (Injection) Warnings
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have liver disease or myasthenia gravis.
- If your infection does not improve, or if it gets worse while taking this medicine, talk to your doctor.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking erythromycin.
- If this medicine gives you diarrhea, talk to your doctor before taking medicine to stop the diarrhea.
Erythrocin Lactobionate (Injection) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Skin rash, hives, or itching
- Trouble breathing
- Swelling of the face, throat, or lips
- Yellow skin or eyes
- Dark urine
- Severe vomiting If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Nausea or upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Sore mouth or tongue
- Pain or redness where the IV is given
