Entocort EC (Oral) is used for the Treatment

Budesonide (byoo-DES-oh-nide) Treats active Crohn's disease. This medicine is a steroid.

When To Not Use Entocort EC (Oral)

You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to budesonide.

How Should You Use Entocort EC (Oral)

Capsule

  • Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to take and how often. Do not take more medicine or take it more often than your doctor tells you to. You may be told to take this medicine in the morning.
  • Swallow the capsule whole. Do not chew, crush, or break it.
  • If you are changing from another medicine to Entocort™, make sure you understand how much of each medicine to use. You may need to watch for side effects, or your doctor may gradually change your dose of one or both medicines.
  • This medicine comes with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
  • Never share your medicine with anyone.
  • If a dose is missed:
  • If you miss a dose or forget to take your medicine, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take the medicine and skip the missed dose.
  • Do not use extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

Proper Entocort EC (Oral) Storage

Store Entocort EC (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Entocort EC (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.

What To Avoid While Using Entocort EC (Oral)

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using antibiotics (such as erythromycin), chemotherapy, radiation, medicine to treat fungal infections (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, Nizoral®, Sporanox®), medicines to treat HIV/AIDS (such as Crixivan®, Invirase®, Norvir®), or other steroids.
  • Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while you are using this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor about any steroid medicine you have used in the past.

Entocort EC (Oral) Warnings

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have liver disease, tuberculosis, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, ulcers, glaucoma, cataracts, or a family history of diabetes or glaucoma.
  • Avoid people who are sick or have infections, because you may get sick more easily while using this medicine. If you are exposed to measles or chickenpox, call your doctor right away.
  • If your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse, call your doctor.
  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly without asking your doctor. You may need to slowly decrease your dose before stopping it completely.
  • Make sure any doctor or dentist who treats you knows that you are using this medicine.

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Rapid weight gain
  • Rounded face, unusual weight gain, easy bruising, unusual hair growth
  • Swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet
  • Unusual bruising
  • Unusual tiredness, weakness, or dizziness
  • If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
  • Headache
  • Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or upset
  • New or increased acne
  • Runny nose, cough, sneezing, congestion
