Dilaudid-5 (Oral) is used for the Treatment
Hydromorphone (hye-droe-MOR-fone) Treats pain and severe cough.Belongs to a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics.
When To Not Use Dilaudid-5 (Oral)
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to hydromorphone or related drugs such as codeine, morphine, or hydrocodone (Tussionex®).
How Should You Use Dilaudid-5 (Oral)
Tablet, Liquid
- Your doctor will tell you how much to take and how often.
- May be taken with food to lessen stomach upset.
- Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture.
- Measure the oral liquid carefully using a measuring spoon or medicine cup. If a dose is missed:
- Take the missed dose as soon as possible.
- If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then to take your medicine and skip the missed dose.
- You should not use two doses at the same time.

- Check with your doctor before taking hydromorphone if you have asthma, stomach or intestinal problems, or lung disease.
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
- This medicine can be habit-forming. You should not use more than your doctor ordered.
- If you have taken this medicine for several weeks, do not suddenly stop taking it You may need to take smaller and smaller doses before stopping completely.
- This medicine may cause dizziness or confusion. Be careful if driving a car or using machinery.
Dilaudid-5 (Oral) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Rapid or slowed heartbeat
- Trouble breathing
- Hives, skin rash, or itching
- Severe confusion or tiredness
- Tremors
- Trouble going to the bathroom (urinating) If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Drowsiness, dizziness, or weakness
- Dry mouth, nausea, or vomiting
- Constipation
- Nervousness
