DDAVP
DDAVP (Injection) is used for the Treatment
Desmopressin (des-moe-PRES-in) Treats bleeding disorders such as hemophilia A and von Willebrand's disease. Also treats diabetes insipidus, a condition that causes the body to lose too much fluid and become dehydrated.
When To Not Use DDAVP (Injection)
You should not use this medicine if you have ever had an allergic reaction to desmopressin.
How Should You Use DDAVP (Injection)
Injectable
- Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given.
- An SC shot is given just under your skin, in the back of your upper arm, the top of your thigh, or the side of your stomach.
- An IV is medicine that is put directly into your body through one of your veins.
- This medicine should be given by a person trained to give IV or SC medicine, such as a nurse. Sometimes you, a family member, or a friend can be taught to give your medicine. If a dose is missed:
- This medicine needs to be given on a regular schedule. If you miss a dose, call your doctor for instructions.
Proper DDAVP (Injection) Storage
Store DDAVP (Injection) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep DDAVP (Injection) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using DDAVP (Injection)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are taking Declomycin®, lithium, Diabinese®, or Florinef®.
- Avoid drinking alcohol while taking desmopressin.
DDAVP (Injection) Warnings
- If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor before using this medicine.
- Your doctor may give you instructions for drinking a certain amount of liquid each day while you are using this medicine. Follow these instructions carefully.
- Before using this medicine, make sure your doctor knows if you have heart problems, high blood pressure, cystic fibrosis, or if you have ever had a blood clot.
DDAVP (Injection) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Wheezing or trouble breathing
- Swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
- Seizures or tremors
- Skin rash, itching, or hives
- Fainting, drowsiness, or persistent vomiting If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Flushing (redness) in the face
- Headache
- Mild stomach pain or nausea
- Pain, swelling, or burning where the shot or IV is given
