Cialis (Oral) is used for the Treatment
Tadalafil (tah-DA-la-fil) Helps a man have an erection or have a better erection of his penis during sex. Trouble having an erection is called erectile dysfunction.
When To Not Use Cialis (Oral)
You should not use this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to tadalafil. This medicine should not be used by women or children. Do not use this medicine if you are also using a nitrate medicine (such as nitroglycerin, isosorbide, Imdur®, Nitro-bid®, Nitrostat®, Nitro-dur®) or an alpha blocker medicine (such as doxazosin, terazosin, Cardura®). Nitrate medicines are often used to treat angina (chest pain). Alpha blocker medicines are often used to treat high blood pressure or prostate problems. Some illegal ("street") drugs called "poppers" contain nitrates.
How Should You Use Cialis (Oral)
Tablet
- Your doctor will tell you how much of this medicine to use and how often. Do not use more medicine or use it more often than your doctor tells you to.
- You may take this medicine with or without food.
- This medicine should not be taken more than once each day. Allow at least 24 hours between doses unless your doctor tells you otherwise.
- This medicine comes with patient instructions. Read and follow these instructions carefully. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.
Proper Cialis (Oral) Storage
Store Cialis (Oral) at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture unless otherwise stated by manufacturer's instructions or labelling. Keep Cialis (Oral) and all medications out of the reach of children.
What To Avoid While Using Cialis (Oral)
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you are also using medicine to treat HIV or AIDS (such as ritonavir, indinavir, Crixivan®, Kaletra®, Norvir®), or medicine to treat fungus infections (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole, Nizoral®, Sporanox®). If you are using medicine for heart rhythm problems (such as amiodarone, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, Betapace®, Cardioquin®, Cordarone®, Procanbid®, Quinaglute®), or an antibiotic (such as erythromycin, EES®, Erytab®), tell your doctor.
- Make sure your doctor knows about all other treatments you are using for erectile dysfunction. Tell your doctor about all medicines you are taking for seizures, heart problems, or high blood pressure.
- If you have angina within 48 hours after your last dose of tadalafil, immediately call 911 to get to a hospital. Do not take nitroglycerin for your angina, especially if it is within 48 hours after your last dose of tadalafil.
- Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine.
Cialis (Oral) Warnings
- Your doctor needs to know if you have heart disease or any problems related to your heart or blood. These would include valve problems, uneven heartbeats, high or low blood pressure, angina (chest pain), heart failure, sickle cell anemia, or cancer of the blood (leukemia or multiple myeloma).
- Tell your doctor if you have ever had chest pain during sex. Make sure your doctor knows if you have had a heart attack or heart failure within the past 3 to 6 months.
- Make sure your doctor knows if you have liver disease, kidney disease, stomach ulcer, or bleeding problems. Tell your doctor if you have problems with the retina in your eyes (retinitis pigmentosa). Make sure your doctor knows if your penis has an abnormal shape.
- This medicine will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV or AIDS). This medicine will not prevent pregnancy. If you or your partner have questions, talk with your doctor.
- This medicine may cause the penis to become erect at unwanted times, or to stay erect for longer than needed. If you have an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours, call your doctor right away or go to an emergency room.
Cialis (Oral) Side Effects
Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:
- Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
- Chest pain or pressure.
- Fast or uneven heartbeat.
- Lightheadedness or fainting.
- Painful or prolonged erection of your penis. If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:
- Back or muscle pain.
- Blurred vision.
- Headache.
- Stomach upset.
